The Mystery Writer Disappearance case originally had him thinking about her and the organization, instead he just thinks about it on his own because she hadn't been introduced yet. Still, episodes before she was introduced are considered part of her arc, you'd just never know that because the episodes never touched on her existence, even the opening that spoiled her character was going to be in the next dubbed episode they never did.

The movies do a shit job of telling her importance.

If the anime didn't ever do fillers the very last dubbed episode of Conan would have been the mansion one about the boss and weed. An interesting stopping point. That's basing it of course on the current number of episodes that were done. I'm sure sales would have increased following season 5 and would have pushed the dub further. I assume many thought that Case Closed Season 5 had Haibara's episode in it but they only did the first half of the season. It sold the greatest out of the series, not including movies.

The anime has its own problems though, like changing the train bombing case to not have Gin and Vodka but fake lookalikes, so Conan never learns their codenames and suddenly later he just knows them. Also the Akemi death episode was butchered bad. She never died at the end and she never referenced Ai. They rectified it in an AO adaption special later but damn.

Apparently the sharp markings under characters eyes like Sera's are eye bags. It was seen as early as Shinichi's first return episode well before any character started having it as their main design. I always thought it was something else, maybe not eye liner but similar... something that didn't mean the males put on makeup.

IMO though it jumped the shark with that stupid Takagi/Saito arc...god that shit was horrible, it just showed how much the manga had lost its focus when it focused so much in 2 literally who characters nobody cares about instead of the original characters.

It's worldbuilding, Takagi and Sato both become vital players in cases. Maybe making Takagi's bigger introduction a love story was a bit shabby but it accurately showed the kind of detective he is, along with Sato. They're good characters, its not like the series eventually branched off into Takagi and Sato episodes that didn't involve Conan.

I just didn't really care for either character and that whole arc felt like it took fucking forever.
No other minor characters have had the manga so dedicated to them to the point where it didn't even feel like I was reading Detective Conan anymore.

Instead of developing the original characters or moving the BO story along or something Aoyama chose to focus on that which imo was a big mistake.

Isn't Haibara focused on more? Counting the many arcs she's tied to and ones that she's a primary source of story.

I used to love Conan but it´s just so fucking long; More than 800 episodes and counting from which we are lucky if 150 include the organization, Hattori or Kid. I got tired of the side tracking and dropped it when it started to repeat itself honestly.

Not to mention that it´s been 20 years. Even if he never found the MIB Conan would be like 30 today so that no longer matters. Keep in mind that since this is not the case an no one grows up in that show that means he is been involved in 800 crimes in less than a year which would mean he saw more than 2 crimes a day, which is not even the worst part because him and Haibara are actually 17 but the Detective kids are actual kids. There is no way those guys don´t grow up fucked up...

I haven't read it yet. Is there two characters that have something in common? Usually its one of those two. Like in the detectives nocturne case, there were two women that had trash to be taken out while another didnt, one mention just winning the lottery and since it was a case of finding bank robbers I assumed it wouldn't be her because it was a red herring, it ended up being the other girl with trash.

I remember other cases that do something similar, like 3 guys and 2 girls, or repeating that the unseen culprit apparently had a male like build while one woman is also in questioning. Whichever that seems like they're gonna play up a trick the strongest.

Of course this doesn't help figuring out the details of the trick, its essentially cheating.

The only reason they're promoting this kid movie so hard is because they know he's not as popular as Amuro and he needs extra support in an attempt to keep the building franchise sales going. The movies for the past while have been selling better and better than the last entry, them blowing their load on Amuro means they likely shot themselves in the foot. Now Kid's gonna be responsible for breaking that streak. It's incredibly obvious.

Not to mention Kid vs Makato doesn't have the same hype as Amuro and Conan vs a satellite hacker. The hypest thing in this movie's trailer was a few explosions and Kid covered in blood, while in Zero's case it was a car about to fall on Conan, among other things. Ignoring the Amuro focus, there's less hype for this movie's trailer because it's more or less and average Kid story. They hardly even focus on what the fuck Conan/Arthur's story is like.

Anime takes longer but it has its own charms. They fudged the story a bit in the very beginning, from what I can remember:
Read the manga versions of The Shinkansen's Bomb Case (episode 5, chapters 33-35) and The Strange Person Hunt Murder Case (episode 13, chapters 13-16) and then watch the anime versions. If you're watching a dub for whatever reason those episode numbers might be slightly off since hour specials are split into two internationally.

Might just watch the anime then. Last episodes I remember when I was a kid (Fuck Conan has been running for a long as time) was when they were using stopwatches to time going up a tower, introducing main girls milf mom and the one when Conan briefly turns back to a teen

I assumed it was because in his first time he was kinda vital to the case, like he was a witness to the discovery of the corpse. He was also with Kogoro.

Akemi's death was really powerful in the manga. Suddenly the cute round stuff was jarringly put with Conan realizing the blood on his hands, and this page. I really wish the anime didn't fuck up the adaption but I guess I'm glad it ended up being done in the artstyle that it was during the retake than the one at the very start.

Japanese has distinct speech styles depending on gender, age, personality, who's speaking to who, etc. Chinese is more like English in that different kinds of people's speech isn't as differentiated. So this creates ambiguity when translated from Japanese; for example, when translating LNs where you may have several people speaking one after the other with no dialogue tags in between. In the original it's clear who is saying what based on the speech style, but the translator may need to add in things like, "said [character name]".

I'm currently rereading. Some of the early cases were really good. It's also fun rereading because you can tell Gosho didn't plan for Conan to last nearly as long as it did.

I wonder why when airing remastered episodes that have Nazo as the OP they don't add the remastered version to them, as opposed to using the current OP. It only aired with the kidnapping artists case, both parts iirc. It's also the only OP to be remastered though shock suspense had a remaster in a torrent I think it was self made.

I remember wishing this one got dubbed because it was a rare case of Conan being in actual danger. Even Agasa was involved. It was like the start of the next season after 5. I tried to watch it subtitled but the subs were off and came up late in scenes and immediately disappeared for the next set, it was annoying.

The worst ones were retranslated from other languages and done by schoolkids who didn't have native-level proficiency in English. But that's typical in the scanlation world even today.
The other issue is that DC is more difficult to translate than the average manga. There's a massive amount of text per chapter, frequent clues that involve language wordplay, and a lot of technical jargon depending on the theme of the case.
It was tough for me as someone who had only been studying Japanese for a couple years, but it was a good learning experience. I'm sure I made lots of mistakes, so I made sure not to propagate my translation much at the time.

The redone Akemi case in season 5 feels like more than its original manga counterpart. I mean, there isn't a blood on his hand scene and the drawings feel more poweful when she dies because of the change in style, but the anime has its unique charms too.
