Anime used to be based upon plot and art style

>anime used to be based upon plot and art style
>it now all one color pallet and traps and fetishism and waifu bait

pic related is an artistic masterpiece which is almost 20 years old now. anime art style pretty much ended with panty and stocking and from then forward most anime uses the same color palette that they use which is all pastelle and bland like nu western animation. also SAO was also a peak point because its art pallete is frequently used.

You what now

by moe most people mean cute girls doing cute things, not any show with an attractive female character

Maybe you should start capitalizing your sentences and type like a sentient human being you faggot.

That is not what moe means at all, retard.

ITT: Retards pretend exceptions like JinRoh, Patlabor movies or Honneamise were somehow representative/the standard of their era when the majority of the output were either children's shows or waifubait.

I've been seeing a lot of Yea Forumsedditors like OP posting here recently, I wonder what happened

>I wonder what happened
Teenagers going through their "I've watched the same 5 old movies and old OVAs as literally everybody else and I'm now a cultured anime expert" phase, nothing new.

Attached: bait.jpg (720x540, 50K)

A list of manga in the vein of the op? 90s early 2ks would be great.

I like how from all the possible anime to use as an example of what a masterpiece anime is supposed to be you picked Jin Roh. I totally agree. If i could add something to what you said it would be that the decay is not limited to colour, shadows and visuals in general but it affects the narrative cinematography as well. Granted Oshii is an extreme case as he is probably one of the few directors, even for his time, that understood that the value of eastern narrative is on contemplation as oposed to the constant action of western narratives. He is clearly from the school of Yasujiro Ozu.
Offcourse he was not alone, there where other directors like Shoji Kawamori or Kazuhiro Furuhashi that understood this as well... the problem is, i think, that audiences are no longer interested in those kind of films or maybe the market is fueling, as you said, some sort of standarization where everything looks the same.
It is a problem of all current media though.

(you)
The only correct thing in that chart is that GuP is anime for virile, red-blooded males, brimming with testosterone.

>he is probably one of the few directors, even for his time, that understood that the value of eastern narrative is on contemplation as oposed to the constant action of western narratives
This is some of the biggest load of horse shit I've ever seen on Yea Forums, but I guess I shouldn't expect people that probably just stick to Japanese media to know anything about film or storytelling in general outside of their self-induced ignorance.

> sorry that i use fucking proper formatting.
Good for you. Now work on using proper capitalization you dumb faggot.

I know you're spoonfeeding to make people mad and scream at you, but you're really not helping the board with it.

Not action in therms of action flick and explosions, but in therms of characters taking action and solving problems. American cinema is not very contemplative in general except for a few directors and even those would be more cerebral or intellectual rather than contemplative. Yes, there is a difference and no, it was not intended as a bad thing, just as a way to mark there is a difference in narrative style that is cultural. I wouldn´t say it doesn´t exist in the west but it is rare. (That is way Americans often get adaptations of manga and stuff like that wrong. Studios just don´t get it. Some directors might)

Normally when an American movie is slow is not for the same reasons a japanese one is slow. It has to do on how to present the information to the audiences. Usually western comercial cinema has to make sure key pieces of information are presented at least 2 or 3 times (in different ways if possible) to ensure the audiences will understand everything.

>Card Captor Sakura anime is from 1998
>"Anime was invented in 1980"
What the fuck is this shit.

Most of the stuff from the 90s and 2000s that people still talk about today aren't simply because of nostalgia and blind nerding/fandom. I would even push some particular series from the 80s are still heralded as good or better than products that are released in the present.

My take on this is because creators back then were not trying to produce something that is animation but rather using animation and visual art as a means to create something in the likeness of live action but done in a different style and method that deserves a different outlook. Anime not trying to be anime is very rare and considering the market and demand nowadays, it'll be difficult to find something with substance and quality.

What most creators want to achieve is a brand line or legacy very much in the likeness of everlasting 80s and 90s franchises of Sailor Moon, tokusatsu AKA Ultraman and Kamen Rider, Gundam etc. An IP that can sell numbers regardless. The problem is that almost everyone tries to approach production using this mentality and goal, and the result is fewer creators are raring to go back to the ways of Mamoru, Tomino, Kawamori, [insert whatever 20th c animators here]. Studios sure as hell ain't gonna invest like that and even when they do and give the resources and time, you may get a series that doesn't really strike your tune like VE (which was clearly film quality but released as a TV anime).

And there's one more thing, Nips aren't the only ones capable of doing good quality anime style animation. Chink studios and Gooks (both of which were always frequent outsource staffs for Nips) are releasing more of their own original products too. That is if you care enough to search for the quality stuff and can get past the prejudice of whatever animation isn't Nip is garbage.

That movie was dumb. All it had going for it was the animation style
You do realize that's a bait image.

That bit is correct though.

>That is if you care enough to search for the quality stuff
Such as? All the actual Chinese Cartoons that have been released recently are middling to god-awful trash-tier. Where's these fabled Chinese and Korean masterpieces you claim exist?

Whoever made this is probably a retard

if you look closely at the bottom left of the picture. you'll have your answer

this but unironically

A bunch of retards replying to this shit thread and other retards replying to an even bigger retard that posted bait with a very good chance that he doesn't fucking know that it's bait.
What the fuck is this shit.

Kyoani perfect moeshit though.

Whoever is unable to recognize an obvious bait is definitely a retard.
