Chapter 39

Last time, Kanade and Shouko's turns in the qualifying round came and Kanade was surprised to learn that one of the judges was Oliver Smith, current principal dancer for the Royal Ballet in London. Watching Shouko dance normally however gave Kanade the confidence to dance the way she always does and she gave a very energetic, joyful dance. At the same time, Oliver was told by Abby to keep an eye out for Kanade but he was unsure if he had the right girl, especially after her performance.

This chapter, it's a bit of a waiting game for the cast as they await the results of the qualifying round to see which of them have moved on to the finals.

This just reminds me of that other dancing manga with the sick female author. Just what is this mysterious Japanese cold that it lays people low for what seems like years?

Of course Abby's criticisms are definitely correct. I also like that she doesn't seem interested in some "other" Aurora, she still wants Kanade specifically.

Poor Akito, getting bullied and rekt and he doesn't even know it.

Ballroom? Their approaches and focus beyond ballet vs. ballroom dancing are totally different though.

Kanade's a gold mine for reaction faces.

Next chapter has my favorite goofy Kanade moment in the entire series.

Just asked some Japanese guy yesterday to search for news about her, for no result except she keeps being ill. Apparently, there was a rumor she had some sort of conflict with her editor too, but the guy said the website where he found this was unreliable as fuck.

Just as it looks like things are going south for Kanade they seem to be looking up for Ema.

That's all for this chapter. Next time, Kanade becomes even more consumed with her worries as she starts second guess the choice to go with Diana.

in the end, to me it still seems Nichols noticed how Kanade is good at "absorbing" and copying the stuff she saw, like when she reproduced Nichols' Swanhilda, and I can't help but thinking she wants to make use of that skill to clone herself and create a 2nd Abigal Nichols, or at least a new elite dancer who will be known as "Abigail Nichols' student" rather than "Kanade Ariya", without really considering if it's the best thing for Kanade. Both Eugène and Takimoto (by picking a variation that suits Kanade better than the one Nichols chose) warn Kanade on that.
I say, she's definitely suspicious.

>13 years old and already fucked up feet

I wouldn't be surprised at all if "illness" is used as an excuse for editorial conflicts or writers either writing themselves into a corner or losing the drive to continue. Since I don't read Ballroom, did the break happen during some big plot point? I've noticed that's when a lot of these illnesses tend to happen so it wouldn't at all surprise me if, sick or not, the mangaka just gets to that point and doesn't really know where to go from there.

That's definitely her goal but I'm guessing there will be a little more to it than just that though and we'll probably get a better picture whenever more of Takimoto's history is revealed.

Well she's been dancing ballet for around 4 or 5 years at this point and en pointe for like two years so it's not surprising. Especially considering the pointe shoes she wore during the first round were on their last leg.

I imagine ballerina feet are like ISIS beheading videos for footfags.

RIPIP In Peace, shoes

It's just cooling spray?

Well, the manga basically leaves off the conclusion to an arc, but the adaptation did conclude the arc with her help. It's possible she doesn't know where to go from there, though.

It happened in the middle of the climax of the series, when the climax was going to end. I doubt she was driven in a corner at this point, the roadmap was clearly defined, for at least 4 or 5 more months (it's a monthly release). Actually, the anime went further than the manga and "concluded" the climax properly (it seems the mangaka was implicated in it).
Plus she also had another 1-year-long hiatus for illness before too.

I guess ballet dancing fucking up the feet badly is not something that will be really adressed in the series, as the tone is overall quite genki happy.

Just like the fact a hell fucking lot of dancers, especially amongst professionnal, hate each others with a raging passion will be hidden too. Kanade, Ema, Shouko, Sakura... they are rival and friends in the manga, but I learnt music and have family who are music teachers who occasionnally help as amateurs in bigger orchestra, and I can say that iIRL all those professionnal artists, whether it's dancers, singers, choreographers, solo instrumentists, choir, actors, whatever, all hate each others to oblivion and would sell mother, sister and daughter without a 2nd thought if by doing so they could slightly annoy their rivals.

I'm fine with it not devolving into soap opera bullshit full of sociopaths though. Considering Cuvie practiced ballet (or so I've heard anyway) she's probably well aware of all the bullshit that actually goes into it so she'd rather just show the beauty of the art and hard work than fill it with petty backstabbing.

Oh sweet summer child, Kanade is the only girl FROM JAPAN that Abby wants (probably).

Shame I can't read moon. Since volume 12 is out and that's what the scanlator works from hopefully it's not that long before we get some more chapters.

Cuvie? Is the author of this manga a hentai artist for Wani?

Yeah, same Cuvie. This is neither hentai nor ecchi, though.
