It's actually the opposite, up until the mid/late 2000's you could still find some good dubs. Now you'd be hard pressed to find anything even remotely passable.

Dubs can be pretty great. I usually just check who the voice actors are and see if there’s anyone on there I particularly like most of the time and decide based on that.
