Saiyuki

>Show has a reputation as shipper bait for yowie fangirls
>Characters are all violent and abusive to each other and hate each other too much for shipper bait to make sense

Explain

>show has a character A that seems to hate B and like C
>think A/C is cute and search for material
>95% of it is A/B
Every fucking time, I don't get it either.

Hakkai is the only character from Saiyuki I see as shippable with any of the others and it's pretty obvious he doesn't want anyone else after he fucked his sister

>one is a siscon
>other one is obsessed with pussies
>then we have a monk
>and a kid
Why people ship them?

Autistic fangirls who misread social signals even in fictional characters

How does a series that started as a shounen ended up as jousei later?

I used to have a crush on all of them before I even discovered yaoi, but looking at them now I feel nothing.

Because this show has almost no male fans in spite of two of the protags being almost a parody of trashy macho adventure protagonists.

But it has a lot of fights and action. Or the new chapters are different?

I remember watching this shit as a kid and having my dick hard thanks to the sick opening

Saiyuki was good. And I say that as a man.

>There aren't more anime OPs with sick guitar riffs

Why is Stiyl from index here?

If you completely ignore the fandom culture, Saiyuki is The Dukes of Hazzard with demons and dragons and shit. It's about characters who are the kind of people you think of yourself as when you buy a roll of scratchoffs and a pack of cigs at a gas station on an interstate road trip. It's about the kind of guy you think of yourself as when you call your sibling vaguely homophobic or sexist insults.

The entire story is trashy, macho fun about four asshole Asian rednecks who also happen to be powerful demons.

One of them is a human though

What a goofy series

I’d probably hate it if I was Buddhist

This is the first anime I collected in its entirety, season 1 and 2. Good times, man.

Pretty much.

I liked this show when I was fifteen because the main characters called each other fags a lot.

Whats this about?

That OP is pretty great

It’s supposed to be based off of the Journey to the West folktale. Except it’s with a bunch of guys driving a Jeep through asia and fighting demons.

Retelling of Journey to the West but with lots of trashy and profane behavior. Think a road trip series but with magic battles and the main characters nonstop roasting each other.

It is simple, the guys act like the typical tsundere males in a lot of anime aimed at females; they don't actually hate each other at all if you watch it subbed, Gojyo and Hakkai acted like an old married couple while Sanzo snd Goku act like bickering siblings often, add in their linked past life Gaiden stuff from the manga and it turns in to fan-service for women easily.

However, the one liners in the dub are fucking gold

Nah, I watched it dubbed the first time I saw it but subbed re-watch was better for me. I can't stand dubs most of the time; the tone of voice and altering what the characters actually say to fit mouth flapping changes the story enough for people like OP to think that they guys hate each other instead of playful banter and genuine affection.

The manga translation is also written to make them angry and abrasive though

That is bad translation in some places; but yeah, they are all flawed and cranky from hunger, traveling and getting attacked all the time but will still mess someone else up if they try to hurt one of their party; girls just find that gap endearing. They do understand that it is mostly camaraderie but also ship it because that is hot to them and because it is written to pander to them as a josei manga now.
