Every character in HxH has usually just a couple powers that they use in creative ways to outwit each other and win fights. This guy's main power can make a material which acts as both rubber and Gum. He can do shit like hold things together with it, or shield with it, it's crazy flexible in other ways too though, like faking a tattoo by making the appearance look like the tattoo and just sticking it as gum to his back. Basically, this asspull was essentially that he made himself a new heart and lungs out of this material, but even he died eventually anyway, so we don't know if it's something that would have worked forever or just a temporary work-around to keep him alive for the time being.

Its genuinely pretty hard to actually put the Madara stuff as asspulls. Its foreshadowed how crazy powerful the dude actually is.

Kazuo just had the most unbelivable propensity of always being in the right place at the wrong time. And the author (especially in the book) went to great lengths to make Mim seem like the hero, even though everyone knew Shuya was the real hero. The context was Hisoka played possum to let a fight end. He imbued his powers with so much will that it activates basic CPR long after he died. He also made a prosthetic leg and nose, and he proceed to kick ass seemingly without need to adjust.

This schtick made such glaring elementary biomedical errors it became the favourite meme for channers to poke fun at HxH for trying to be a thinking man's series.

That is dumb because Hashirama's mokuton constructs are invencible. They are so strong that his Several Thousand Hands Bhuda shatered a perfect susanoo and knocked the Kyubi, the strongest bijuu. Besides that, they explode. absorve chakra and supress it, and are resistant to brute force and fire. And Hashirama also had regeneration on par with Cell, beyond humongous chakra reserves. Teh man was as much of a beast.

Reiner Braun from Titan which will be animated in April. It’s the best arc animated yet but it has some asspulls. Basically Titan Shifters can survive almost anything. He survives pic related as well.

It’s my favorite manga of all time despite some minor flaws it’s actually really fucking good. If you like the anime you will love the manga. Everything before chapter 50 is more or less the same with meh art (s1-s2) but I suggest reading from chapter 51 because season 3 p1 changed a lot and rushed too fast. Levi for example strangled Historia to force her to become Queen instead of her randomly accepting.

The Basement COMPLETELY changed the story and almost everyone agrees it’s for the better.

I think it was all too convenient as well. But immediately after that Jotaro proceed to give Dio a deep, satisfying beat down. The punchline: "You've made one fatal mistake, only one mistake: you really pissed me off" was cheesy as he'll but endearing. All in all an ending to a fight the readers deserved.

Compare to "O my rubber nen". We got Hisoka'a corpse ignoring medical nuances to ressurect with basic CPR. And here's where Togashi really just jerked us around: he made a perfectly functional prosthetic limb for himself - so why even bother getting Maki to see his arms back previously? Hisoka then went on to kill a couple of Spiders to start a cat and mouse game and we just felt: meh.

an autor has to properly foreshadow and set the bases of it's power/world system to avoid this kind of shit
take for example the Super Saiyan transformation (which some ironic retards claim to be an asspull): we learnt about saiyans when Raditz came to earth and we were told Goku was one. This didn't came out of nowhere: Dragon Ball had already set up magic monsters and outer beings, and takes this as an opportunity to explain Piccollo, thus explaining he is also an ayy lmao.
Later we hear about the Legendary SS: what is it? how is it? how do we get to it? This thing kept being hyped the fuck up until we reach the point where Goku finally transforms and we see a Super Saiyan. This (again), doesn't come from nowhere, since we already had all the bases and knoledge for it to happen, all that was left was to see it.
Modern shonen autors seem to fail in this sometimes in order to avoid being predictable, it's like they lack the art of foreshadowing of proper world-building. Take One Piece for example, Oda tried in some situations to take the time and explains as much as possible to powers of the Devils Fruit and showcasing some examples, while leaving place for exeptions and mysteries unresolved such as weilding two powers at the same time.
HxH also does this by showing how Nen works after death and how versatile Hisoka's bungee gum is, so it doesn't seem as an asspull.
Charmy's dwarf genetics also isn't an asspull, since it's power and the "beast within" was something we were teased about early in the story, and since we already knew about grimoires with two magic atributes (see Morris' experiments and Mars) and other races, dwarves were not something impossible to think and foresee.

Whats weird about this is that Saiyans already had a way to get insanely stronger in a very short period of time: the Zenkai boost. Which Cell later benefits from anyway.

And its not like Piccolo really got anything by using the HTC, so its inclusion probably isn't for the sake of allowing other characters to get a big boost in power.

The properties of his "rubber and cum" nen are completely irrelevant. He was just telling his nen to revive his heart and lungs. It's makes sense that Hisoka could do at least this much because we've seen another character use their nen to reanimate their headless body to fight for a minute or so despite being 100% dead.

Don't some people believe that the original reason Jotaro finds out he has Time Stop was because DIO's stand would have just had the power of ALL stands? And when he started using an ability that the crew has never fought before, Jotaro would realize that it was HIS ability?

I really hate how Nighteye was wrapped up in one arc. Now the story is stuck between a rock and hard place with All Might. If All Might dies, we get a hollow conclusion because Deku will never really make up for failing to change that future, with no other predictions to disprove. If All Might lives, then no shit of course he does, we already know Deku can change the future.

Yes and no, it's not necessary for it to be unexplained, what is unknown is how the character managed to do it/obtain it. For example we saw teleportation and qi detecting in DB but it was never explained how he got them. Another sets of examples in modern literature is pretty much how Harry Potter defeat every major villain.

The main issue is that a lot of these authors/writers are taking advantage of the reader's tendency to put things together, so very early on they just add weird and vague things happen to the MC or vague descriptions to a characters abilities. Think of a fortune teller giving you bullshit like "you're gonna have a very good day soon".
Then when they need to they use the asspull, and depending on how it's written you either have to question whether or not it is an asspull since it's not clear or you think that the author planned everything for years

Great manga, currently on its last arc so its a good time to pick it up.

They just added some erenxmikasa scenes in season 1 and skiped erenxarmin scenes because araki was a big EMshipper, but besides the annie eren final fight in season 1 and some scenes like ymir flashback or warriors killing marco which were shown earlier, the manga is very faithful.
The begining of season 3 is a rushfest though, the manga counterpart is infinitely superior.
So you choose. Start from the begining, or start from chapter 51 (where season 2 ends).

And forgot to add, thanks for araki being a EMshipper as I mentioned some of the erenxannie scenes that build up the confrontation in that arc are skipped.

Did you see the entire series? The last 2/3's of the series (sans the rushed, half-baked ending) are really good I feel. Toguro and sensui are really good villains and YYH has one of my favorite main casts in all of anime. Did you dislike the fun adventures of Yusuke and Kuwabara? The intrigue of Kurama and Hiei's pasts in the demon realm? The world of YYH being as fleshed out as it is, its above average characters, quality visual direction, etc makes it a cut above most shonen imo.

I've seen people call this an asspull lately, especially comparing it to O MY RUBBER NEN. But it's nowhere near as egregious, because Enel literally gets beaten a volume later. Askin (the lanky aizen looking dude) has the ability to calculate the absolute lethal dose of any substance he consumes, including reiatsu. This means that if you attack him with your reiatsu he can simply lower it's dosage, not die from it and he gains FULL IMMUNITY TO IT. You do one attack on this sticc and he's essentially immortal.
Then Yoruichi comes around, the thicc sexy delicious brown catgirl that has been around from the very beginning. She goes into this electricity cat mode and gives her the ability of changing her reiatsu 48 times per seconds simply because "cats are fickle". Out of nowhere, an established characters just shows up with the biggest, most obscure counter to an already obscure ability. Because she changes her reiatsu so fast he can't gain immunity to it.
So what does Askin do? Well what else other than going into his angel form, allowing him to automatically adapt to changes in poison as long as the base poison remains the same. This means that although Yoruichi changes her Reiatsu 48 times per second, the "base" reiatsu is still the same, so he's invincible again. His ultimate form is an obscure and unecessary counter to an obscure counter to an obscure ability. He's actually invincible now. You cannot harm him with any more attacks. Urahara, Ichigo's sensei pops his bankai but even that doesn't do shit.
How does Kubo solve this conundrum he created? How do you defeat the undefeatable after asspulling counters after counters to his ability?
It's simple. Fucking GRIMMJOW shows up out of nowhere after being """dead""" for 200+ chapters and rips his heart out and kills him. Just like that.
