There's always a chance for more intricate developments but unfortunately that is beyond most writers.

Well I wouldn't say it's too keep the drama going so much as it's just to create interesting and amusing predicaments. I love Lucy wouldn't be as funny if the show was about Lucy and Ethel not jumping to conclusions and concocting wacky schemes.

Reading through it again, this really isn't a bad manga, outside of a few glaring moments. It sucks when you're waiting months for new developments but when you're archive-binging it's almost too fast-paced. And while it's not funny or interesting on absolutely every page, there's a consistent stream of funny pages, enough to keep you in a good mood.

Early on is still best, I think, but that's mostly down to the art style, and that same fresh "rawness" that makes season 1 of Friends entertaining. Otherwise, the quality's fairly consistent.
