That sounds strange, since most people are lusting over her body or arguing over how cute she is - but other cute, sexy characters fade away almost immediately. Megumin sticks around in our minds because her intense autism humanizes her. She doesn't have vague goals about saving the world, or a generic desire for love. She has specific interests and an almost self-destructive urge toward them - just like real people. The Otaku audience of the show can specifically relate to this sort of ridiculous passion that no one else seems to understand.
Furthermore, the series isn't afraid of treating Megumin - or really, any of the girls - as victims of punishment. They're flawed characters, and the world punishes them for it. There's no sanctity among them, they're not just objects to fawn over, but living, breathing people who make mistakes and then pay the price for it. That brings them to the audience's level, and makes them sympathetic.
This is basically screenwriting 101. From the start, the most important thing in character writing is formulating a specific and precise central desire for your character to make them feel like a real person. It's the same reason Rem, Korbo, or any number of other beloved waifus have remained relevant over time. It's a simple principle, used across time and space, yet so rarely excised in anime and manga and light novels because authors get too attached to their own heroines to make them really suffer.

Demon army can't march BECAUSE of the wall, it manages to endure daily explosion even before Aqua arrives. For comparison, Destroyer without its magic barrier immobilized by two explosions. That wall & the engineers behind it are sturdy as fuck.

That's the most important point.
The castle did not get breached because of those guys. Right after Kazuma and co arrived at the battlefield, Mitsurugi explained that even though they could contain Wolbach and her army, they were all injured and probably couldn't endure much. Thanks to Aqua's wall the castle could be secure meanwhile the cheat guys weren't there, and Megumin could use that time to kill her troops little by little.
There's no way Aqua alone could've defeated Wolbach by herself. We are talking goddess vs goddess. She either helped construct the wall or go straight against Wolbach and her army.
We don't really know Wolbach's capabilities, but I'm pretty sure Explosion wasn't the only spell she knew

I did say it'll at least reach stalemate with just Aqua, but at least it is not a massacres.
Aqua can't killed Wolbach unless Wolbach snipe Aqua directly with Explosion & Aqua use Reflect. But they can mobilize normal army+cheat users+Aqua's support once the wall is sturdy enough, Aqua build the wall FASTER than Goddess of Destruction she is not completed though can destroys it.

I also stubbornly budges, they never lack any offensive power with cheat users, what they need & want is good defense for Wolbach's hit & run tactic. It's over once Aqua arrives, Megumin & Yun-yun only accelerate it.
You can't really call it "to stall" if the wall is getting thicker each day.
