Really? That pun just sounds stupid enough to be realistic.

>The original is more like "spaceport".
Better, I guess.
Though, the real headscratcher is them turning actual airports (like Narita) into launch- and landing points for spacecrafts in the first place.

Is the manga still running?
Recently finished the anime and I fucking loved it.
Where to purchase?
(do they actually go to Jupiter?)

Attached: Planetes_v01-173.jpg (800x1200, 189K)

There will be many things that didn't happen in the anime.

It did happen, when he got his compass broken by Hachimaki's brother, he had this huge monologue and this was a short part of it.

That's all for today.

It's probably not a good idea to take advice from a homeless former astronaut.

Thanks OP

Thanks, user!
Nice chapter with some minimalist storytelling, liked it. Though I liked yesterday's a bit better.
So far all of the chapters have felt quite different from each other. Not sure whether that should be worrying or not. The story at least seems consistent and relatively dense, which is a good thing.

Arigatou.
Does the manga continue past the anime?
There's so much to be done with such a space anime, it'd be a shame if they just left it there at "lulz he gun have baby and also look jupiter and saturn, you're never gonna see dem LOL"

I think the intricacies of space travel to the gas giants and the maintaining of relationships would be very interesting.

I'll read this later cuz I'm about to fall asleep.
Thanks for the dump.

I don't see why not, they're more like spaceplanes so it wouldn't be a tough transition. Especially in Japan where it would be easier to repurpose a big open area like an airport than to find a new site.

No, it's been over for 15 years. The endings are different, but no spoilers here.

It's a fucking shame.

got rekt.

I love how all the high tech space age shit works with magstripe cards.

>The endings are different
Isn't it more like the manga just continues for a while past where the anime stopped. That's how I remember it anyway.

The consumer ship at the beginning and the TV in are modern looking. But the infrastructure of the world is still chunky and industrial. I think it's pretty realistic.

good stuff

I really love the tech art in this series.

Bump!

Thank you!

Thanks for the last two chapters user. I missed yesterday's thread so I had to catch up.

Bought all volumes when they were licensed in my country. Still love it very much.BUMP!

Bump.

By the way: The YKK thread just hit the limit. Time to say goodbye.

Chapter 3 is probably my favourite while being pure comedy it is also very poignant. Remember to buy the Dark Horse editions of the omnibus since they are well made for once.

>jimble (*don't ask)
they should have asked, then they would have spelled "gimbal" correctly. That's the rocker joint that lets the engine point different directions for attitude control.

A jimble is a gimbal that was made in Duwang.

>then they would have spelled "gimbal" correctly.
Damn, I didn't pick op on that. But it is pretty obvious. Those translators are retards.

checking my copy, the Tokyopop edition translated it better:

"Maybe I should loosen the gimbals."

Unfortunately, these are the only scans that exist as far as I'm aware.

The raw says:

>ジンバルの微調整も甘かったかな?
>JINBARU no bichousei (?) mo amakatta ka na?
Roughly: Was the gimbal's fine-tuning sweet?

Strange word choice, but it does seem to work in that context.

Not this time, thread. I see you're trying to die again.
Bump!

Trying to become debris.

anyone else see in phase two where hachi kicks the debris into the atmosphere? In the manga not only does he not have enough power in his legs he is also kicking it straight down. This stuff triggers my autism

"I'll go after her." Does this "her" mean the rocket or the broken compass?

I didn't think he was trying to kick it. He drifted or crashed into it.

I think it means the rocket, since he's been treating the rocket as a she for the whole chapter. Now I'm wondering why is that.
It looked more like he didn't notice the debris besides him and crashed.

Rocket is always a phallic symbol. It's hard and perpendicular and shoots. I think the line means he will soon catch up with his big brother. He even looks taller in the last panel.

>he's been treating the rocket as a she for the whole chapter.
I'm afraid that argument does not really have any validity here, as there's no indication of any grammatical genus in the Japanese version:

>なあに すぐに追いつくさ

It just says that someone will soon chase after of catch up with something.
As there's no further context given, I think the best interpretation is still that he's talking about himself going after the rocket.

>I think the line means he will soon catch up with his big brother.
The problem I see with this is that Kyutaro wants to be an engineer, not an astronaut like the rest of his family.
>He even looks taller in the last panel.
I noticed it too. But didn't thought much about it.
Thanks for the input. Also this reminds me to keep up in learing japanese.

now that moot has been dead for almost 4 years, i can finally say it

PLANETES IS FUCKING BORING GARBAGE

Oh no

I hope moot buys the site back because of this comment.

too bad moot is gone and working for jewgle now

Bump!

Anyone still here?

what chapter is this from?

I figured that he looked taller in the last panel to symbolically show that he's finally begun growing into the next phase of his life.

Planetes is excellent.

Bump.

>Was the gimbal's fine-tuning sweet?
Was the gimbal's fine-tuning (too) lax ( ¦ loose)?

Nice old school sci-fi reading.

>lax ( ¦ loose)
Interesting. I've never seen it used in that way, but it appears you're right and it can mean that.
Thanks.
