Isekai is a great genre because it's safe. The first 20-30 chapters are the story write themselves, the reason the protag was spirited away, the introduction of the kingdom and it's affairs, meeting the heroine and registering at the guild, etc. etc.
That's why the MOST important thing isn't what cheat skills the mc is, or their compatibility with the world combat/magic; the most important thing is pacing. It doesn't matter how slow the journey goes, just do it tastefully; the faraway paladin is a perfect example of this.

Say that someone is in debt and on the verge of starving and basically sells themselves in order to be fed and housed from there on. Boxy was a really fun read up until the point when he started consistently winning. The whole appeal of the early chapters was his borderline retarded efforts to progress through complex, dangerous situations with the limited intelligence and ultraspecialized perspective/skillset of a Mimic - the story hung on longer and better to that premise than Slime ever did, but by the time I stopped reading he was a suave humanoid warlock mercenary who'd level-ground near to unbeatability and was juggling multiple successful identities with a host of willing and powerful servants.

It didn't help that, while he was always a horrible monster, his increased intelligence and growing tendency to succeed made him more repulsive than comedic, both because karma no longer seemed to be in play and because his sociopathy became less easy to excuse as the actions of an idiot box. Plus the people he was hurting became less awful, which didn't help.

I figured the author had come to the same conclusion around the time he killed him off to the Wardrobe Mimic: it would have been a hilarious troll ending to the series, or at least a decent trigger for a whole new premise like him becoming a low-tier greed demon pegged for the post of Archdemon. Instead he got brought back to life by cosmic fucking coincidence, outsmarted everyone because he's super cool and smart and powerful, and came out of it with a powered-up unique demon minion. Unfortunately, while the screencap is accurate, it feels like the writer just didn't have the willpower to avoid wanky wish fulfillment. If there was a genuine chance of Momonga losing his subordinate's trust and facing a coup, it'd be an interesting set-up where he'd actually have to lie and misdirect and put up a front. If Momonga was genuinely less powerful than his "character" was meant to be, for whatever reason, and actually had to deal with problems through bluffing and tricking his OP allies, it'd be a fun ride. If Momonga was actually a normal person instead of having his emotional responses filtered through Isekai Emotion Deadening Skill #2491, his reactions and conflicted feelings about having to ride this tiger would be funny or even horrifying.

Instead all his subordinates are literally programmed for perfect obedience, the only one to turn on him did so because of mind control, he trashed her anyway because he's the most powerful thing in existence by an order of magnitude, and he doesn't really care because he's a skeleton. Any tension, dramatic or comedic, was dead in the water the moment the writer decided Momonga's numbers should be higher than everyone else's numbers.

The tone of the series sort of changes when I'm not reading about a retarded box bumbling through society while abusing his grumbling demon slaves, but instead reading about the level-capped lovechild of Hannibal Lecter and The Thing grooming an emotional vulnerable elf lesbian so he can eat her and steal her inheritance while his adoring demon lovers cheer him on.

They're two very different characters, at that point. Wile E. Coyote stops being funny if he catches and graphically butchers the Road Runner before trying to seduce and eat his mother with a genuinely cunning master plan. He spends all his time trying to murder someone to eat them, but we laugh and sympathize: the fact that he's an idiot who fails is all that keeps him palatable. Most of our laws are immoral because they rely on the initiation of force to be upheld and don't have any society-spanning negative consequences but only inconvenience the minority in power. Law shouldn't trump basic principles for a functioning society like property rights, the non-aggression principle or freedom of speech. Literally the only progress we've seen in society the last 100 years have been due to technological advancements, and even then it's been heavily slowed down by massive taxation of a system whose seemingly only reason to exist is existing like with the USSR toward the end of its lifespan.

It certainly isn't today, and that's the problem. Take the US for example, there the politicians create systems so company giants like McDonalds or Walmart can get away without having to pay any taxes while their small competitors have to pay a sizeable amount of their income in taxes and has to play with a handicap against them, thus ensuring their dominance. They also frank out forbid new competitors in some markets like the medical industry, making it almost impossible for new companies to open up hospitals and forbid foreign medicines which can compete with the domestic monopoly thus letting them charge whatever they want. Not to even begin talking about governmentally owned businesses who isn't even reliant on customers or providing a good service since their existence is guaranteed on tax money, thus as said allowing them do act however the hell they want. Cartels also need government intervention and regulation in order to remain since it would otherwise always benefit your company to be the ones to break free and make bank on the customers.

There's a few exceptions like when you have a private backer who will keep funding you even when your business is failing for sentimental reasons but in general the shit that companies are pulling is only enabled by the politicians. As said it's called crony capitalism and it's garbage.

The story opens with our MC devouring hapless adventurers out to save the world before nuking a whole town out of sheer callous greed. It was hilarious. I don't think an inability to enjoy senseless violence is the problem. In fact, the whole problem I've been describing is that it STOPS being senseless violence.

You do understand that although Tom & Jerry and Saw are both just long sequences of people being mutilated in horrible ways, one is a comedy and one is horror, right? And you can understand why someone who watched a whole Tom & Jerry box set and found each episode getting closer and closer to Saw would be put off, even if they enjoyed Saw on its own merits as its own thing?

So can you see why the slow transition from a retarded-but-mobile Mimic on a roadtrip to a shapeshifting hypercompetent Dexter villain would result in a very different tone, even if the story's still trying to be comedic? That's the disconnect for me. That's the loss.

Most people don't seem to understand what a society is or how it works.

Basically, it's like this: a bunch of people with similar ideas of how people should be able to live came together and decided how they were going to govern their territory. It's a contract based on mutual rights between individuals and it's enforced by a militia. Anyone who would threaten the rights decided on by the group gets put down by force. In the end, the only thing that truly maintains a society is its military and whoever controls it. If you believe in human rights, the only way to protect them is to kill anyone who would oppose you. This sentiment was reinforced during and after WW2. We established a union of countries with similar ideas of what rights every human should have. Anyone who steps out of line must be immediately put down in order to secure safety for the rest. It's sad, but that's the nature of reality.

Since then she's kind of acted like a simple NPC that only explains stuff and praises the MC.
