3D Kanojo was very likely to have been split-cour, meaning S2 was decided from the start. Plus IIRC the anime was at least partly intended to be an ad for the live-action movie. You could have instead stuck with Maid Dragon as your example, and even then, it's not like it flopped hard (it was at worst a mild hit, and that's not even taking into account merchandise, manga, and streaming sales). Meanwhile, Strange+ did very badly and got a second season (in fact, S2 was announced even before S1 premiered), but people don't seem to bring that up for some reason.

I dropped Kemurikusa after 3rd episode by giving it usual rule but nothing really caught me in it, the male MC is just there the girls are even worse than in KF, story is not interesting at all, for me nothing works in it, the only big selling point of it is that it's Tatsuki creation so anti-Kadokawa crowd can crown this series this season.
If Kadokawa weren't releasing KF2 the same season I doubt it would even manage to be in 1000 rank.

I kinda hated it that Kemurikusa will always be compared to the conflict between Tatsuki and Kadokawa. I am honestly been amazed of how I'm enjoying Kemurikusa and I wish some people see that show as not a tool of vengeance for Kadokawa's demise but a real show about a post-apocalyptic anime with enough lore to put you in the edge and be curious to watch again the next episode. Maybe the fault is KF1's characters are more memorable than Kemurikusa but Rin and co.'s story of survival and finding their life in the Kemurikusa do grow with you.

Like others have said, its genuinely a good show (albeit a very slow burner) but much of its sales success is due to Tatsuki basically being a folk hero now.

Even if Maid Dragon only got middling sales, it probably boosted the manga a lot and the show became a cultural sensation, not to mention it was popular in the West too.

If anything I don't think anybody can explain why fucking Hand Shakers of all things got a second season.

Wataten is the very definition of "cute not pedo", even Mya-nee's lolicon tendencies get toned down a bit as time goes on.
Meanwhile Uzamaid was more openly going for the lolicon audience and had a lot more fanservice, whereas Wataten is almost fanservice-free.

Whether the manga sold an increased one volume, a thousand, or ten thousand is irrelevant to the production committee of season 1 deciding to greenlight another season. The sales doesn't really matter much when it comes to "read the novel" adaptations and/or is getting globally released.

There are those originalfags not understanding each episode only has 20 minutes and also those braindead shounen watchers that goes "I don't know what's happeneing". Overall, this adaptation has consistent and great quality and I think many scenes/episodes were pre-producted I think.

The game and current anime are completely different takes on Tezuka's manga, if there's any stans involved in the sales it'd be for Tezuka in general. People are buying Mappa's Dororo because it's genuinely a decent anime, and has things that both men and women can enjoy.

Uzamaid was a massive flop though, volume 1 didn't even sell a thousand discs.
