The thing about the Cheetah is it's actually one of the most successful predators in the world, I think an average of 1 in 4 hunts brings a kill. But they're awful at defending their kill from other predators. Their lightweight frame doesn't do them any favors, and they can't risk an injury with how fast they need to run. So they struggle to feed more than just themselves. But Cheetah don't take well to captivity in general. Basically they're an evolutionary razor's edge.

How the fuck did you even come to the conclusion that Kaban, Serval, Boss, and whatever other Friends were with them at the end of episode 12 were going to suffer, die, and get separated from each other given the happy, light-hearted, optimistic tone of the last scene? It's because it's the future no one wanted for the characters that makes it especially hard to swallow for people that they'll lash out and be upset over the new show. In what way was killing Serval and separating her from Kaban for who knows how long necessary and ultimately beneficial to both of their character development and to the overarching narrative and plot of the series? As far as narrative is concerned, it's the complete opposite and is detrimental to the idea that friendship can overcome insurmountable tasks. Having all this bad shit happen to them is contrary to that belief which undermines the message the original anime was pushing toward the viewer.

1. It happened in the past with Mirai
2. It almost happened again in S1, but thanks to a heroic intervention everything turned out well
What could be inferred is that at the end of another set of adventures, they were attacked by a stronger Cerulean, Serval sacrificed herself so Kaban could get away from it once again, there was no WELCOME TO JAPARI PARK MOTHERFUCKER this time, and Kaban decided to dedicate herself to studying Sandstar in order to bring her back a third time.
Then again I guess the issue is all on me for trying to be impartial and seeing what this season wants to do despite the entire Kadokawa bullshit, instead of focusing my entire time on hating everything that has to do with it as revenge for said bullshit.

This right here is an argument as to why it should never have happened. A story isn't in the events that transpire, it's in the themes that form the backbone of them. When one of the themes is about everything being okay so long as friends stick together, you don't go and kill everyone off screen and then pretend like you're picking up right where you left off. In having Serval get cerulean'd you invalidate that climax of the first season. It's spitting on the grave. You can be passive aggressive all you want, but I think you're the one not looking at this objectively by constantly framing all criticism as people who are upset about Kadokawa rather than the content of this sham of a sequel.

The best thing to do, at least for me, is to rewatch Kemono Friends. The show's still there, its message of friendship, teamwork, and caring for others still resonates and can never be broken down, and the hopefulness of the finale still rings true as the Kemono Friends we know and love, the one Yaoyorozu took so much effort to create, has not received the sequel it was supposed to have been given. The stories Tatsuki and everyone else wanted to tell using Kemono Friends still exist so long as they exist, and who knows user? Maybe they'll use the ideas from Kemono Friends S2 and refine and recreate them to tell an entirely new story.

Again, what Mirai dealt with isn't the same. They saved the park, and succeeded where she failed. They didn't necessarily save it forever, but Kaban showed how Friends could survive if they worked together.
Her journey off of the island had nothing to do with Mirai's ordeals as far as we knew. The only implication at the end of S1 is that their journey will continue, and they will meet more new Friends.

It's been repeated many times, but it just really sucks and leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the first show ends with a hook and the show following it ignores it and decides that the whole adventure isn't worth continuing, and decides to start over. There's an appropriate time to do a timeskip sequel and KF2 was made too early to be even remotely acceptable, especially with how far into the future they went. If it was a couple months past the end of KF1 and Kaban and co. were in the middle of a new adventure on the next island, but we were following this new human Friend instead as it builds up to the two of them meeting each other, that'd be more acceptable than what they chose instead.

Deciding to reintroduce both of the Savannah Combo and obliterating their characters to boot seems like a move made out of desperation and spite. It is, honestly, a big "fuck you". It's saying fuck what you liked, it's different now and it's better. You don't know what's right for KF just because the first season accomplished a Herculean task by rescuing the entire franchise on a shoestring budget.
But please also think of this as fanservice and us moving on.

I remember learning all shorts of shit about the various animals from these threads during S1 because they all had obscure quirks that made you think it was just part of their character until you began to look up if there was a connection to their animal counterpart.
S2 is the most obvious shit, like ducks lead their ducklings in a line, pandas sleep a lot, armadillos curl up when scared, and cheetahs run fast. The only interesting thing I've actually learned in S2 was that ducks actually fake injury (which the anime had to let me know as her "Special Skill") and that cheetahs use their tails to turn at high speeds (which wasnt even a thing in the show) from this thread.

The episode was ok. As far as nothing-happens episodes go, it was 100x better than the Teletubbies-tier panda episode. The new friends were nice on their own meirts and had decent designs, and Caracal had some good banter. At the same time, half of the episodes now feature some kind of "two groups of friends have a rivalry and it's up to MC to resolve it" plot, which shows how thin the writing is getting. It was also a bit repetitive with a lot of time spent on run cycles, and there was more QUALITY than usual. Having a total filler episode immediately following the Kaban episode was a bizarre choice too. Overall it was a 5/10, maybe 6/10 at best.

There are a shitton of shows that easily beat out how KF2's been doing so far. King's Game and ARC-V received 1-84 and 3-94 on their season finales; EP7's 7-77 is still a long way off. It's simple, dedicated haters who still wanted to give the show a small chance, but then went apeshit once they saw Kaban. Look how much the 3 and 4 lines dropped, that's them. The sharp decline for the 1 line could also have been thanks to hater haters (yes) dropping out or disliking Kaban's appearance as well.
Basically, there are far too many circumstances involving this show for opinions about its own merit to be valid, everyone knows about what happened and their feelings influence everything. The only way to get genuine opinions about it would be by asking people who don't know about the Kadokawa bullshit, but that's pretty much impossible.
I'm not saying the show is good by the way, just that it's not as horrible as you want it to be.

I actually think the plan was pretty solid - they knew they couldn't do the same thing as Tatsuki so they skipped Kaban's new adventures, but they also knew they couldn't just write her off so they wrote a (belieavable) temporary ending to her journey with Serval. They might even find a way to restore everything to how it was in the past later on, then give Serval back to Kaban and Caracal to Kyururu, who fucking knows.

I guess the issue is that they wanted THE iconic Serval, so killing and reviving her was the only way they found to separate her from Kaban. While that should be a crime indeed, at least it might have set what's going to be Kaban's goal for this season - bringing Serval (and her memories) back. And then there's also how Kyururu is still a complete mystery.
I can't say I expect much from this season, but I'm still a bit hopeful and very curious about how it's going to end.
