Diavolo has the abilty to change his fate for a brief moment at will with his stand king crimson and that would be easiest explanation possible but i will explain to you how it works in detail:
Diavolo has a sub stand known as epitaph which allow him to see 10 seconds into the future by looking at his hair bangs. Those visons diavolo sees will surely happen but he has the ability to change his fate for a brief period of time with king crimson´s ability.
Now that diavolo saw the future he can select which segments of time he doesn´t like to erased them and change his future by activating king crimson´s ability.
During erased time diavolo can witness the future actions of other people and predict their movements, also diavolo can move at free will during this time and find a new position to do a sneak attack once time recover it´s natural flow, on thing to remember is that diavolo can´t interact with the outisde world or kill people within erased time UNLESS the were fated to do so, let´s explain how it happends:
When narancia died during time skip he was fated to do so and nothing will ever change that because that´s how casuality works. Once diavolo activated epitaph he witness that he will kill narancia no matter what, so diavolo activates king crimson to erased that moment to go unnotice by the rest of the gang and you may say ´´´dude he can´t kill people during erased time´´ and i respond ´´diavolo has the ability to change his own fate with king crimson, HOWEVER he can´t do the same thing with other people, he can´t change the actions narancia does during erased time because that doesn´t correspond to diavolo´s fate, but be he can change his own at free will for a brief period of time and so he choses to move to a new position to do his next attack.
Once time flows normaly everyone will forget what happened during king crimson´s erased time, only diavolo knows what really happened during that time.

After years of writing simple stands which anyone can understand both before and after part 5, why would Araki suddenly decide to make one ability so complex that you need a huge wall of text to explain it?
The truth is that in any one scene, it's very easy to explain how KC does what it does, but if you expect the exact same rules to apply across the entire part, then you run into trouble because Araki keeps changing his mind about how it works.
KC is a simple stand that just works inconsistently. Bites The Dust is unironically much more complex, but nobody ever says anything because it's presented consistently.

Here's what I think the problem is: there are TOO many explanations. Too many analogies, too many definitions. It confuses anons with so many interpretations.
Araki's own definition is the simplest and provides good enough examples to understand. All KC does is look ahead to what happens in the future and then skips directly to the future, what makes KC strong is only he is capable of comprehending a time skip, everyone else is at a disadvantage and has their moves predicted.
