Shamanic Princess is probably the most "obscure" thing I have watched, and it isn't even that obscure.
Its a dark take on magical girls way before Madoka aired, but the story and characters are meh, and for some reason they made the first 3 episodes the actual story and then the last 2 were a flashback.
Still worth a watch for the characters design and animation though
