The anime feels like it was designed to have each episode watched twice with the amount of subtle details, and everything involving swordfighting is so intricate not just in the constant usage of real life techniques but in the way certain style's attitudes relate to characters. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.

It's okay, Yume is back in a hospital bed coughing up blood again. And the elite guard feel like shells of characters in the anime compared to the mobage. I can't believe the anime didn't even touch on all of Maki's old squad dying. The only reason she joined Mokusa to begin with was to make sure Ellen stayed safe. She's still a slacker at the end but I feel like her sense of responsibility grew a lot when the dangers started hitting closer to home. She was one of the most emotional when Kanami and Hiyori didn't come back from the netherworld, and I think that's part of why she volunteered to join the elite guard.

Storm Armor remains the hypest moment in the whole series.

This show failed on "show not tell". During the flashback I was completely lost on who was whose mother and had to refer to a wiki page to keep everyone sorted in my head.

It failed show don't tell because it showed you things without telling you them? And it's pretty obvious which of the two in the past were the moms. You saw tulpamom many times before that point and Hiyori's mom was always with Yukari. But the flashback was intended to be confusing, that's why it was a cold start dumping you into an event with information that contradicted what you had already been told.

Minato appearing in Kanami's dreams gave her a connection with Kanami, and Kagari resembles Hiyoyon and the Juujou clan was close to the Origami clan so I don't think it was that confusing.

What I never expected from the series is how established and firm Yomi's belief is.
You guys kept making fun of her being birb and all during the first half of the show, but then at the end she gave a speech full of indomitable spirit.

I don't remember being any kind of confused by the first episode, but it might have been because I read 2-3 manga chapters before it.

It's definitely a stark contrast from Maki who has a meltdown after losing just once.

People felt sorry for the birb because of the abuse she got but it was great to see her being active and show her conviction.

Before the anime she was too valuable. She produced great results even if she hid a lot of dark shit, and Yukari was complicit in most of it anyway. During the raid they couldn't kill anyone because they needed their hostile takeover by a revolutionary group to appear legitimate to the rest of the world. Even then Mokusa struggled to be accepted, no thanks to Akane. Yukina went into hiding and the Sword Administration didn't need any more scandals, so they put Renpu's deal on hold. When she came back she had so many political cards to play that she was effectively immune, and she had outlived her relevance by then anyway. Maki was going to kill her but there's just no point. She's just pitiful and again, it's hard to single her actions out and not take down all the Sword Administration and the Origamis with her.

It's weird remembering how nobody understood her for the vast majority of the anime. There were all kinds of theories, from her being a Yukari devotee to secretly having died ages ago and this Yume just being a dumb aradama using her body as a puppet.

Ellen and Mai's episode put me to sleep but Kaoru and Sayaka's episode afterwards was top tier and wholesome. I want to see their post-anime adventures.

The first half was extremely straightforward, it just expected you to infer a lot of basic information about the setting. The second half took that foundation and threw you through constant twists, calling into doubt a lot of things from the first half and expanding on them. It was the best kind of clusterfuck and had a surprisingly satisfying ending.

I don't know how you managed to walk away with that when the ending was Kanami saying they had to save Tagitsuhime and the moms forgiving her for killing them. In fact you have it totally backwards. The first half was kill Yukari, the evil goddess. The second half was questioning if there ever really was an evil goddess. One of my favorite episodes is when Tagitsu powers up and decides to appear before the media and play the victim instead of fighting anyone. That's absolutely out of character for this kind of anime.

Yume and her death was the best thing about this series. There was no melodrama about how the rest of the cast respected her all along, she literally just came and went. She was only remembered and mentioned by the few people who got to knew her. Regardless of how people felt about the series, at least that aspect was rather well-written.
