In the first place people insisting on this are the same people who let it slide when the protagonist somehow absurdly gets pulled into the center of world-changing events and becomes a central figure within that event, not to mention how after 10,000 years of peace somehow one world-changing event after another happens just right when the protagonist's story begins and somehow the antagonists, even those who have nothing to do with each other, somehow always align their plans in a manner that they don't overlap, ever, giving the protagonist the chance to face them one by one and the antagonist whose "turn" it currently is always happens to be slightly stronger than the protagonist (i.e. scale with him) so that the protagonist can beat them after another training session.
Don't even get me started on the fact that the protagonist having an antagonist at all times after the first one appears is an absurdity by itself. That's what "developing and overcoming struggles" for the main character usually leads to.
In comparison Rimuru is not in any sort of constant state of opposition with someone else. Instead of people being obssessed about one-another we have people actually just following their own interests instead! Fortunately the concept of "the protagonist must have an antagonist at all times so I create one even if it makes no sense whatsover" is not an issue in this series, though some things might lack explanations in the anime version due to cutting of content.

It gave more of a firm grasp of what pre-harvest festival Rimuru and JTF was like. In the WN powerlevels didn't make too much sense, like we never even got to know how strong DL-stage Rimuru actually was, because he had no actual fights aside from Hinata round 2 who herself lacked any significant comparison in strength with anyone beside Genie-fied Hero who might or might not have limited power at the time.
In the LN, at DL-stage Rimuru is actually still pretty far away from top-tier level, it seems, while in WN he was far too OP in the early parts of the battle at sea even before his transformation to his TD-stage.

I've only read the manga and watched the anime but I don't think I'm liking this adaptation very much. Not only has there been a noticeable increase in QUALITY but also it's an inferior product to the manga. I felt encouraged when the anime skipped a ton of content because that didn't made any sense in the manga since Rimuru's goal should be fixed on making good his promise to Shizu, you have diplomacy shenanigans, merchant shenanigans and a minor "training" arc where he learns to summon debirus, so I felt great about the anime reorganizing the focus of story and pacing it a little bit better. But the pacing feels all wrong, it's like they're ticking boxes and just rushing through everything. I mean, shit, it's not like the manga was a masterpiece or anything but I'm really disappointed with the anime.

The anime has stop adaptating the manga aroud EP16 or so, from where it became an LN adaptation instead. Keep in mind that they create much of the stuff in pre-production, so they can't keep things up-to-date with the manga version at all, which results in the "changes" you see in the anime, escpacially since the manga takes its own liberties with the LN content as well.

Since I have yet to read the 4th LN volume, I'll limit this to the first three arcs:
Up until Rimuru gaining human form: anime > manga > LN (though LN has much more backstory for Shizu than the other media and also got a sidestory about Gobuta's previous solo visit to Dwargon, though)
Orc Disaster arc: LN > anime > manga (LN went into much detail how the powers of the characters actually function and why certain attacks do or do not work against certain characters)
Charybdis arc: manga > LN > anime (manga had the best introduction for Youm by far, also wide range of clothes for Rimuru and Milim, anime skipped too much).
In general: LN, manga, anime > WN.
Overall I'd recommend to go through every version if possible, but make sure not to miss Veldora's Diary for the manga version, since that is only released with the volume version, not the magazine version!

Here's a chapter Summary.
First chapter is about the magician woman (blonde woman) who is actually subordinate of Demon Lord Clayman, who has her heart stolen by the said demon lord. She has infiltrated Tempest by joining Yomu's party, and is planning an attack.
The second chapter is about the effects of rise of Tempest had on the human kingdoms. Because Tempest became the centre of trade with the Dwarves, neighbouring human kingdoms decided to crush and enslave Tempest.
While on the other hand the 'West Church', which aims for the extinction of monsters began their move as well. The Holy Knight Commander and the strongest human next to Yuuki (Grandmaster), Hinata Sakaguchi blocked Rimuru's surroundings with a barrier in order to kill him. While this is happening, Tempest is being under attack.

Perhaps not what you're looking for, but before it becomes widely-known that Kaijin is working in (what will become) Tempest, people are constantly surprised to find that a master craftsman is working for a monster village in literal Whoville. Additionally, the reasons behind Kajin's choice while not 100% solid, are still there. Kaijin was already being steadily pressured into expatriation by Vesta's previous actions, on top of being given a massive workload of what is otherwise "impossible" work. Then you have a random slime show up, having saved your disciples/forgemates, and helps you finish off the otherwise impossible workload. All Rimuru asks for initially is someone to come over to help, not permanently mind you. Kaijin makes that decision himself, because at this point, he has nothing to lose. Why continue working in a country where one of the highest authorities there wants your life to be shit?

More or less. He's a (the?) high(est?) ranking Fire Spirit that responded to Shizu when she was first summoned and on the verge of exploding from the magicules inside her. Spirits choose their "dwelling" and Ifrit chose her. His existence's purpose (in setting) is to stabilize the rampant magicules inside her, and she gets fire-based powers as a result of housing a really high level fire spirit inside of her. If I recall correctly, Ifrit gets a little fleshed out in Veldora's side story, but otherwise he/it isn't meant to be a character at all. Shapeshifting has nothing to do with Ifrit, unless Rimuru decides to shapeshift into Ifrit. The whoel shapeshifting into human form is from consuming a human, as he can mimic the appearance of anything/anyone he consumes.

user, you do know that Leon, the Demon Lord that summoned Shizu put Ifrit inside of her. Leon stole part of the great spirit of fire (Ifrit) and.after summoning Shizu put Ifrit inside of her. I just wanted to correct you since I agree with your points.you just messed up some of the info regarding Shizu.

I'm kinda disappointed at how they didn't show the lucky merchant being awesome. Anime just kinda pass him by as a greedy merchant and that's it.
He was more awesome in the manga. Most of his stock of potions he bought were destroyed from that dragon and then he didn't hesitate to use the rest to save a women nearby. They never showed this in the anime. It's a shame since it gives him a lot more character instead of being just some greedy lucky merchant.
