Rei from hnk will forever be one of my favorite manga characters.
His actions truly touched my soul, the fact that he told Mamiya to be happy instead of I love you shows how kind and altruistic he became by the end, caring about fighting for a better world and purely out of love and duty, wanting nothing back other than being remembered, he rejected pity too.
Remains one of the most emotional death scenes to me because of everything his character stands for.

HnK thread instead of making a new one then. I have a question. It's pretty damn clear that the series was written as they went without any major plan. That's why it seems really obvious that Rei was meant to be just some guy. he ends up being one of the top 10 strongest men in the world, and a practitioner of one of the 6 Nanto schools, making him insanely elite. But there's no indication of that when he's introduced.
Shin also appears to be THE big bad of the series. Then they go "uh, there;s like 6 Nanto guys, not just one.".

When Shin was written it wasn't clear if the manga would even be published beyond the first few chapters so they just wrote it like a short story. Then they got the big OK from Jump to go on but since they already killed Shin they kinda had to scramble to give him any more character posthumously. I think they already planned to have Rei be a major player right from the start since the characters in his intro chapter already mention his fighting style, which is a big deal for the story even then.
I think the most obvious case of them just making stuff up without any planning is the whole storyline with Mamiya being a former captive of Yuda. You see her shoulders early on and she clearly doesn't have the Yuda mark. But then later she just does.

The most blatant asspull in the series is meeting fake Toki. It's clearly written from the start that this is the real Toki. Then half way through, Bouronson changes his mind, and decides that this is a phony, and that the real Toki is elsewhere. Probably thought that using Kenshiro's brother as almost a throw-a-way villain would be anti-climatic.

The games actually change Amiba's hair colour to white. It's pretty funny to think that Ken saw nothing wrong with Toki having black hair again suddenly.

It makes sense to train all the four brothers other than Jagi. He shows clear signs of mental instability, narcisism, and immaturity early on, and he never changes.
Raoh is massive power. Toki is the best overall with the finest technique, Kenshiro is pretty good too. What does Jagi bring to the table? He's just a stupid retard. The series would have been better had he just been strangled in his sleep as a teen or something. On top of that, the three brothers seem to have a lack of emotional atachment to him, while the other three seem rather close.
That being said, I still love Jagi preceisely because he's such a petty short sighted retard. he's just such a perfect foil for the rest of the cast who are so restrained and well trained hard workers.

The series takes place in Japan, specifically the Kanto region .Why then is there like, zero references to Japanese culture other than martial arts? They guys look like big burly Euro-Americans, no one other than Kenshiro has Japanese names. No elements of JP culture exist. it's as if there's been waste for centuries, yet it was only like a decade ago the bombs fell.
All these thugs just like 15 years earlier were fucking office workers in Japan. Can you picture that? I can't. I actually thought the series was set in America, at was like long after the bombs fell. Enough for a few generations and everyone to forget the world before the bombs. I was shocked to learn the entire cast was adults or at least young teens when the bombs fell.
