Hunter deaths: Oyakata, Shinobu, Tamayo, Rock pillar, Mist pillar(though he might survive but be permanently disabled)
Demon deaths: Kaigaku, Akaza, Nakime, UM5 if he's around

Both sides take their lumps but the hunters come off worse overall. They lose their strongest members, while the demons lose their weaker members. The main five characters have to step up and fill the gap. I'm calling that the arc after this(minus training or w/e) will be centered around Douma, and that the older pillars won't be able to help much.

What's the MC of this manga like? I've heard good things about it, and could use another comfy shounen that doesn't already have hundreds of chapters, but I'm really sick of boring Jesus-kun MCs.

He's the Jump MC that's least like a stereotypical Jump MC (loud, cocky, brash, barely any motivation outside "fight for friends")

I like him because his compassion doesn't stop him from getting the job done

This manga has one of the most likable shounen MCs ever. He is super nice but not unrealistically so. He protects innocents but priorities his sister more. He can sympathize with his enemies (as long as they regret their actions) but it doesn't stop him from delivering justice. He respects authority but do not hesitate headbutting (literally) his seniors if he thinks they're in the wrong. He is mature and level-headed, but also goofy and easy-going. He is optimistic but very grounded and realistic. He is not the chosen one, or the most gifted or talented among his peers, but he always gets the jobs done to the best of his capability. Basically he is the shounen protagonist done right. The author did a good job writing a MC who is actually nice and interesting, not the generic, whining, annoying "Nice Guy" MC.

The mist pillar, being a direct descendant of the original Breath of the Sun user, is more like a chosen one than he is. All we know is that Tanjirou's ancestor once helped a BotS user.

Anyway, what I meant is that the manga and all of its characters never treat Tanjirou as something more than a promising young soldier. There is no "you are the chosen one", "only you can do this" shits going round. Instead, it is implied that Tanjirou is not as talented as his peers who passed the final selection. And I like it this way.

Sure, Tanjirou is special, but the manga has not placed much importance on his lineage (yet). Muzan wants to kill him because of his PTSD, but outside of that the plot does not revolve around Tanjirou. As far as anyone is concerned, Tanjirou is just a charcoal seller's son. He does not receive any preferential treatment or special attention whatsoever.

I think it'll be better than your typical Jump anime adaptation. The OST will be god tier and they're ahead of schedule, so most likely it won't suffer from QUALITY issues. I'm really looking forward to it.

Uzui is one of the last shinobi so any mentors are probably ded
Mitsuri not sure who she was taught by, she might be a newer pillar
Himejima's probably been a pillar for a while so previous might be ded
Tokitou is fairly recent but also became a pillar in 2 months, so he might not have had a mentor and relied more on his swordsman lineage
Snake is a mystery
Tomioka's mentor is Urokodaki
Shinobu's mentor was her sister
Wind is also a mystery but I'd say he and snake might have been pillars for a while too
