Sai was such a bad match for Ino. They literally ended up together because of a dumb misunderstanding and now their kid is the least relevant of them all.

Honestly it seems like while some of the recasts in Kai were fine (Kid Gohan sure got ruined though), some deterrents started to sound a bit off by then. Sabat for instance starts to sound like he's barking off every line by itself instead of it being dialogue it's worse with Piccolo than Vegeta though.

Nozawa's lost the strength in her voice, but her skill at using it is still great. Female-voiced adult Goku still isn't ideal, but she does a great job regardless and you get used to her and I appreciated her more after watching DB and DBZ subbed all the way through like two years back.

I'd say a lot of it was the dub script which injected more humor in, of a sort of punky kind that fit well with the cast, particularly Yusuke and Kuwabara given who they are.

Then you've got the performances. Genkai has more breadth than Freiza so we got a more varied performance, Kuwabara despite having a sillier voice was done in a heartfelt way by Sabat, Cook is plain nailed it 120% as Yusuke, and so on.

Nadia's English dub was top tier. I like that they cast actual kids in the kid roles. It took them some 8 episodes to really get the hang of it, but after that, their real kid voices added a lot of charm to it. Also Gargoyle had one of the coolest villain voices ever.

I agree. There were so many great performances in the dub. Toguro stands out as one of the greatest villain performances ever. Such a menacing voice. And enough has been said about the Yusuke and Kuwabara. I love that scene though, where Yusuke is getting killed by sensui and Kuwabara breaks down. I compared the scenes and in Japanese, it sounds like your avarage shonen screeching. In the dub however, you can hear the pain, frustration, sadness and heartbreak in Kuwabara's voice. He really nailed that scene. Also Kurama doesn't get enough love. I really disliked that "woman voicing a pretty boy" trope. The dub gave him a sweet and melodic voice, but when he gets serious, you can hear the cold intensity in his voice. Really chilling performance, considering that he is such a spooky character.
