how would you have kept all this characters relevant throughout Z while still keeping every ability and transformation introduced in the series?

>tien
More assassin like moves and use of his copy ability.
>chiaotzu
More of his psychic stuff.
>picollo
Stretchy and regenerative stuff and being able to use special beam cannon much quicker.
>yamcha
Lol.

NTR plot

By making Goku weak such that he needs support from his friends

People hate on the Spirit Sword but the general idea has potential: augmenting one's abilities with residual, environmental ki that has shown itself capable of destroying enemies as powerful as Kid Buu. Mastering that could put the humans on the level of the saiyans and beyond.

Other than that, the spirit bomb in general has potential for the reasons outlined above. Krillin has shown himself capable of at least handling it. The requirement is a pure heart which he likely has at that point. Kienzan is also broken, especially when paired with Solar Flare and so is Neo Tri-beam. Gero actually mistook Yamcha for his approximation of what Goku would be without Super Saiyan. Yajirobe was on par with Piccolo Saga Goku despite lacking any formal martial arts training; have him work hard enough to learn how to fly and he'd have been a beast.

What really fucked the humans over is that they were always an arc too late in terms of power rather than any sort of power ceiling. Namek Saga Krillin would have decimated Saiyan Saga Vegeta and Late Saiyan Saga Yamcha would have beaten up Raditz, a guy who had previously toyed with Goku and Piccolo.

Gohan turns his study toward esoteric techniques and medicinal ki after his potential is unlocked and buu is defeated. He becomes a professor and begins unlocking the potential of average people, which is actually something gay like fixing problems with ki generation and flow with energy surgery or whatever. Researchers figure out what is going on and build tech around it. Capsule Corp etc. All the human cast gets a magnitude increase in power and gain relevancy via unique abilities they learn to manifest. DBZ becomes less about raw numbers and more like nen. Could travel the universe to become a great scholar of ki and discover the way it manifests in different beings and societies.

Giving kaioken to all of them while they were dead would be a start I guess

>piccolo
I love piccolo but I already think it was a huge ass pull to make him well stronger than a super saiyan by fusing with a decrepit powerless Kami
>Yamcha
Make him still his regular strength but have focus on him being a trickster and resorting to cheap tactics to eek out victories against Super level enemies

Introduce more villain groups or lackeys that are on the level of the rest of the characters so they can have their own 1v1s while the saiyans deal with the main threat, similar to how One Piece does it. This would keep the abilities and transformations while giving less relevant characters more screentime.

Piccolo absorbs more namekians.
Krillin and gohan as a team equals one vegeta or piccolo.
Tien has more crazy techniques. Evety fight is a fight to the death. Goes all out to make up for lower level.
Chotsu has time stop abilities like that ginyu force guy.
Yamcha... should have been mr satan. He was a sports star and should have been the face to the world for superhumans. The strongest person the world knows about. So morale support?

Have Goku kill each of them upon winning and absorb their abilities and transformations like Megaman, and call upon them regularly as the situation demands. This series really only needs one hero, the ensemble is nothing but a hype crew.

Gohan operates as a damsel in distress that Goku needs to rescue from time to time but otherwise tries to lead a normal life while trying not to become a giant monkey. Speaking of which, no convenient permanent tail removal.

> go back in time
> kill toriyama before cellĀ“s arc.

It's weird.

Usually in manga, the author focuses on other characters while the main characters are off doing other shit.
Goku and them are on Namek.
Well, let's focus on Tien and Yamcha doing something or fighting someone on earth.

They don't do that at all and only focus on the mains.

Keep Yamcha as the cocky martial artists with the skills to back it up, Have Tien use the Dodonpa and instead of gunning for Tri Beam Cannon, give Krillin more confidence and screen time.

>Super Saiyan takes an immense toll and is much harder to master than the Kaioken so Goku is stuck at much lower than Freeza at least for the time being
>Future Trunks doesn't exist, Freeza died on Namek, New Namek is impossible to find and King Kai refuses to tell out of risk for putting them in harm's way again
>Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu all learn Kaioken
>Cold is introduced as an antagonist and the humans train in the time/gravity chamber to prepare
>humans must go through their own ordeals including obtaining the Ultra Divine Water (ex: Tien masters his third eye and gains a special ability)
>Gohan and Krillin keep their potential unlocks and advance rapidly as a result
>Vegeta gets a side arc and unlocks Super Saiyan for the first time as a result, still a rogue and doesn't get with Bulma, but temperment is about what it is during the android arc
>Piccolo fuses out of necessity later down the line and the dragon balls are gone for good

This, the single biggest gap between the saiyans and every other race was the ability to get multiplier transformations. Kaioken might not scale as dramatically as SSJ, but it's something and would have kept them relevant even into Super.

Introduce more villains for them to fight against (though if overdone can lead to a Bleach-like sense of tedium even if Toriyama is much better at action), or give teamwork a more functional presence. Imagine if Piccolo and co. had managed to effectively beat Nappa, but things went south once Piccolo sacrificed himself. This still allows Goku to show off his slick new moves on Nappa to finish him off while preserving a sense of competence with everyone else.

The fact is DB was always kind of lazy/arbitrary about techniques and powerups; I don't think that's what stopped Toriyama from giving Piccolo focus in the Buu arc or Tenshinhan more focus against the Androids. The Saiyans were just easier to exploit.

Kill off the Saiyans, have their deaths as motivation for other characters to get stronger.

They don't need to be as strong as the heavy hitters, they just need story relevance. Give them scenarios where they have to fight lesser foes or stall for time. Tien vs Imperfect Cell is a great example of this. Of course, doing this consistently takes a level of imagination and planned plot that is probably beyond Toriyama.

This, and also get rid of zenkai boosts.

just give the big bad an army or henchmen that are not as strong, that way goku and the sayans can fight the strongest but the humans can still shine and protect people

>Toriyama
>focus

>how would you have kept all this characters relevant throughout Z while still keeping every ability and transformation introduced in the series?
well, first would be Piccolo. He'd be pretty easy because he only slips into being irrelevant in the buu saga.
I'd just have it established that after Cell, he spent a lot of time training, and really exploring what his new kami-esque powers could do. He only really had to improve a little more, based on how he did against Cell Jrs.
Next easiest is Krillin. I'd have made him and 18 become great at doubleteams like 17 and 18 were.
Tien's hard because he hit his wall all the way back in the saiyan saga. He and Choutzu could only stay relevant in a non-combat role. I'd actually like if after Goku died against Cell, Tien and Choutzu decided to help out Gohan and Chichi, with Goten ultimately being trained by Tien instead of Chichi. It'd give Goten a lot more move diversity. It'd also make Gohan not a wuss.
Lastly, there's Yamcha.
I'd have Yamcha cashing in on his skills by making a "control your ki" self help video series. By the time the buu saga comes around, Satan hates him for being a competing star, and is always looking for ways to show him up. The tournament is made as a direct challenge to yamcha, who quickly accepts and then gets depressed when everyone else enters.

The easiest way is to stop having Goku have to save the day every time.

Take the Sayian arc. Instead of everybody jobbing to Nappa have the same characters die but their sacrifices wear down and beat him. It's only when Vegeta's about to join in and kill the rest that Goku shows up.

Let the supporting cast beat the lesser antagonists.

the way kaioh talked, it sounded like was rather unique, and he was shocked to find out he was a saiyan, so I'm guessing the kaioken's strain on the body only works with beings that can transform.
Kaioh never mastered it after all

DB is NOT a story about the character in your pic.
It's about Goku constantly meeting newer people and making newer friends. Those guys aren't meant to stay relevant but somehow overstayed.

Or maybe by keeping him dead for good
Or at least incapable of fighting

Saiya-jin blood is actually not that compatible with the kaioken technique, so while Goku saw some success with it, Yamcha and Krillin would have seen amazing success with it, pushing it to limits that Goku and King Kai could only have dreamed of. Tien and Chiaotzu would have developed fusion of their own before the Buu saga and unique and independent from what we know and accept. Piccolo would have been Piccolo, and kept up with the saiya-jins because he's fucking Piccolo.

You're fucking epikkkk. Sasuke and Zoro are my favorite characters too

Upvoted and liked.
