The biggest problem was that Tsukuda was/is a massive waifufag when it comes to Erina. Making her beautiful? No problem. Making her rich? Sure. Making her popular and respected? Fine as well. It's her God Tongue that is ridiculous. It set her way too high and above her peers in terms of cooking, which is what the manga literally focuses on. Which is why Tsukuda had to create a nonsensical backstory in order for her to start hanging out with those she wouldn't normally hang out with due to being on different levels. Because of her whole backstory, she was able to reside with Soma and the others and finally broke free of her cage, which was ultimately meaningless since she's appointed headmaster, which just ended up separating her from her peers once again. A character like Erina, with an ridiculously OP ability, works better as an antagonist for the MC to face off or as a side character that makes an appearance once in a blue when shit really hits the fan. He made her too perfect from the get-go, which just ultimately hindered her character which is why she's regelated to the damsel in distress role for the 2nd time. If Erina had an actual conflict with cooking, not that lame MUH MY DADS TEACHINGS WERE BEAT INTO ME BUT I OVERCAME THEM IN A SHORT PERIOD then Azami wouldn't have been needed.

I always found it grating why she's put together with the other characters and it really doesn't help the fact that she's the main heroine which means she's bound to show her own prowess eventually or drag it out long enough. Souma's goal is to surpass or impress her as the starting line and the over-the-top cooking had some realistic basis to it from the start but the problem was it set the bar too high that some hack like Tsukuda can't keep up and literally wrote himself to a corner.

The way that this arc has been rushed, and the supporting cast has been booted into non-existence screams that the series is rushing through it's final arc with minimal padding to finish as soon as possible. Either Jump has given Tsukuda a fixed date by which to end the series, or Tsukuda himself has decided to wrap it up ASAP and is burning through all the ideas he had for future arcs. It's not trying to save itself or bring back readers, it's trying to say everything it really wanted to say before it dies.

Given the way this arc is going, I think the only things you can look forward to her doing are facing Asahi in a match and jobbing to him, then judging the final between him and Soma(at her mother's insistence) so she can finally say that Soma's food is delicious.

Then BLUE could have been done in his third year, with the opponents being Totsuki graduates like the third year Elite 10 from Soma's first year, and various other Totsuki chefs we've met.

I still can't believe Tsukuda wasted the chance to open up the new arc in a fun way instead giving us the boring school scenario. Each character could have been given separate sole chapter on their traveling adventures. Then from there, each member of the current E10 would get a notice that BLUE was taking place, and all meet up back in Japan with Soma finally making his appearance in a bunch of traditional clothing from the country he was exploring or something like that. We could have gotten a chapter of the trio exploring India since Hayama has ties to the country or Denmark since that's where Ryo is from, a chapter of Megumi in France with Shinomiya making an appearance, a chapter of Takumi in the Italian countryside or even just Japan to learn more about the cuisine, Erina and Hisako in say Peru or China since the cuisine from those two countries is hailed as some of the best. What a waste.

Tosh is the one in charge of the art. Maybe he didn't want to bother. It's clear that he doesn't have passion for the series like he use to. The art is a lot less detailed, and he only really tries with certain colorspreads and panels. The latest volume art is ugly, Soma doesn't even look like Soma. His art was a lot better in the past.
