Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm

Given that the movie has led many people to watch the OVA or read the manga, let's have a thread about them.

Are they accessible to the normalfag audience?

They are now, but it doesn't matter anyways since it's over 20 years old now.

Alita was originally created for normalfag. A mix of movies 80s like mad max/blade runner, cyberpunk and post apocalyptic. Nothing original or extravagant

One thing that striked me when I read the manga was how every opponent Alita faced, be it Ajakutty, Makaku, Jashugan, Den etc, all knew exactly who they were and how they wanted to live their lives. Alita never had that as she was always looking towards the past while worrying about the future. Made for a good contrast.

>tfw as an oldfag classic movie watcher the amnesiac soldier trope is familiar with me
>yet is lost to the new casual audience

Alita is the new Aeon Flux for normies. Prove me wrong.

>normies
Alita was before Aeon Flux. Normalfags lived watching Aeon Flux, and Alita is no different and at least has a coherent story.

It is pretty clear, especually in Last Order, how much Kishiro was influenced by Dragonball. The power levels in the action scenes get real silly. Also, Nova was rarely interesting and served as a plot device too often.

Robots with powerlevels originates in Astro Boy though.

I read the first 2 volumes waaaaay back. They were pretty good. I loved the setting and the slums
It got progressively lame as it went on and I dropped it once finishing it instead of moving onto last order

What did Yonkou mean by this?

Attached: Yonkou.jpg (623x2499, 996K)

He is a huge Alita mark.

Battle Angel+Last Order anime adaption.
Yay/Nay?

Only if they use the old aesthetics.

Simply not in the budget anymore user. We'll get digital weightless lines, and flat shadowing. Or even worse Berserked

Attached: cb9.jpg (500x720, 30K)

Then no.

Movie probably isn't going to get the sequel, last I looked it's at about $150million made in the international box, except for China and Japan where it comes out at the end of the month, and it needs to make somewhere between $300-$450 million to make what they spent back. Aesthetics were fantastic though. Manga is fantastic though. Not the biggest fan of the current one though

I just ordered the complete manga collection on amazon after watching the movie. never seen the manga. Give it to me straight bois did I fuck up?

That's a lot of though.

The eyes must have really alienated the general audience. That or scifi really is dead. It also did not have much star power.
Bladerunner 2049 did well because it had Harrison Ford, and Ryan Gosling.

and to think every capeshit can easily make 800-900 mil straight gives me cancel

No, the manga is really good. But also fucked up. Don't let your kids read it unless you're cool.

>cancel
Normalfags don't want to be challenged with new things. They need safe consumption entertainment. With happy endings.

>Bladerunner 2049 did well
Since when?

I assumed it did. Everyone was talking about it, and not in a negative light like this one.

user it was a HUGE flop. Just like the original Blade Runner.

Such a huge flop that took 35 years for a sequel. So we just have to wait another 35 years for Alita to get one.

Better live to a ripe old age there Cameron.

According to boxofficemojo it made $259,239,658 gross internationally. Cyberpunk while amazing, is a hard sell and rather niche.

Manga is amazing, movie changed up some stuff and gave Ido a lot more backstory. It is a lot darker than the movie. And a lot more wuxia.

I should probably double check my posts more when I'm drinking for dumb shit like that

I actually never watched the movie, but it drove me to start reading the manga. It's really great and has a lot of interesting themes (can machines be human, what does it mean to live, how duty and love can become incompatible...)
I just stopped reading at the part where Alita finds Hugo in the warehouse. I'm definitely enjoying this, and I find certain parts interesting, like the part where Alita is jumping around and her inner conflict causes her to lose control and smash herself into elements, and yet, she's unhurt physically while her inner self is in pain. This kind of contrast is great.

Pick it back up user. It gets crazier once Desty Nova gets introduces and you get someone to be her foil, sort of.

She's called Gally

>Nips make live action movie of one of the most successful manga worldwide and event adapt the best part of it
>Total disaster and nobody bats and eye for it
>Americans make live action movie of some old forgotten manga with literal food coupons budget
>Visual masterpiece with excellent story that becomes worldwide hit and breaks many records for anime adaptions

How does Hollywood do it?

Attached: 5868358383.jpg (1264x1624, 636K)

200 million is not food coupons budget, user.

gunnm manga general
gunnm manga general!

muster flashback was cool and all but this flashback have overstay his welcome.

The only reason I stopped reading is because I'm at work user. I'm starting again as soon as I leave work tonight.
I also started GenoCyber yesterday night. After watching Cyber City Oedo a few months ago, I might actually be on a cyberpunk spree.

Someone with some sense. Kishiro told multiple times how big of an influence it was and it's impossible to miss that the Astro Boy themes. In the original series the Pinocchio/identiy/what is AI theme is carried more by Gally herself, then Last Order has the whole thing with opponents who used to be villains or exploited by big bads fighting to find their identity too

It’s just really good food

Well I suppose it would have to be.

Well, it ended at last, didn't it? And all of it tied to important characters such as Erika, not to mention that it finally gave us Alita's origin. Vampires lasted for like 15 chapters when the only plot-relevant part was Arthur Farrell.

Mars chronicle isn't over and no one knows how much longer it will go on for.

Gally is the cat

just finished the first manga and it was a blast, also saw the new film last weekend which was a blast as well. the later story arcs of the first manga that the film didn't adapt went a lot more deeper into the philosophical side, which I was kind of looking forward to when picking this up, but I can't deny that the action-heavier parts were perfectly executed in the film

Attached: Battle Angel Alita - Fight 51.6 - 6.jpg (1120x1600, 275K)

yeag it needs a 3 hrs film to properly lay out the story and feel. Its just a shame that capeshit has murdered audiences patience.

but Endgame may actually last 3 hours and the mouse seems okay with it

They've earned the good will of the audience.

You said "Muster" flashback, well he's dead.
The flashback overall might not be over but we've had a little timeskip already. It's clear that Kishiro wants to tell the past story in big chunks before coming back to the present from time to time.
It's called Mars Chronicle after all.

Looks like I should read the manga

I read the manga in the 90s and early 2000s. I remember really liking it. I fear that it isn't as good as I remember.

I won't be watching the movie.

I won't be rereading the manga.

My town cinemas only showed the movie for a couple of days while I was on finals
damn it

Rate each volume

1 was great but everything else can't even compete

The whole Barjack arc was kino

This, pretty much ALL your favorite classic sci fi manga are just shit inspired by blade runner, terminator, and mad max.

>blacks knowing how to properly appreciate manga

That looks so fucking god awful. Why would they do this? That doesn't look "anime". That looks fucking stupid. Too bad all those "cultural appropriation" sjw faggots won't spend any time complaining about THIS old white(mutt) male dipshit fucking up another country's culture.

wow those sure are some big boy words

Try again with a post that means something

does she even find a husbando, or just like in typical 80s anime, they all die before kiss, because she has to stay pure maiden?

Or does it Usagi drop?

Attached: headache.png (288x287, 241K)

I just can't watch the movie with theses eyes.

nice user

>Complaining about anime eyes in an anime board

Pure? Alita is a whore just not a trashy whore like Kusanagi or Armitage .

> Gollum eyes are the same as anime eyes

Just finished volume 4. Gally a cute!
There's so many great, emotianal moments. Ido and Yugo were the best characters so far. There's not really any bad characters now that I think about it.

Attached: BA03-038.jpg (467x513, 127K)

She kisses Hugo. Then, she stays single for ten years after his death, but she eventually finds a husbando.
