The school is haunted and Deku alongside a handful of other students (mostly not from his class) perform a ritual and are transported to a hellscape version of their school. In it they wind up being chased by several ghosts, most of them long-dead and forgotten students who have developed quirks. Deku is unable to fight the ghosts since they're only weak to salt, therefore he has to watch as his comrades die (generating a lot of real-life salt) which he taps into because seven quirks isn't enough. He defeats all the ghosts save for the mastermind who offers to send everyone back (resurrecting his classmates who've fallen) if the ringleader ghost is permitted to possess Deku.
