Is "canon" a ridiculous concept?
Is "canon" a ridiculous concept?
Now you know why they don’t do religious movies
What you two on about lads?

Mostly yes. No one should care that Batman is gonna kill someone in an adaptation. It used to bother me, now it doesn't. If it deviates, and you don't like the new direction, just don't watch it again.
Having said that, race and gender should be solidified forever as un-fuck-withable.
OP, I was saying they don’t do religious movies because they don’t understand scripture, not that scripture is for children
Fair enough. In that case you should respect cannon, I think. Cos ya know, Jesus is more important than Batman.
>what the lack of dilation does to a troon
You night have an infection, blood poisoning and it's symptoms are nothing to mess around with
truth
so many manchildren like this in Batman threads
Jesus Christ is boiling in hot excrement in hell read the Talmud.
>A terrifying world where those that discuss these characters and their
actions, are actually enraged if said-characters deviate from the mannerisms expected of them, the mannerisms that may have initially been set in the pages of a comic book.
Yes, but especially in religion which is also based on fiction but treated as fact.
Jews will boil, that's who is boiling, ya freaks.
Except that the DO do religious movies, so you are a liar and a fag.
lol /pol/tards btfo
I hate Discord.
>people being stupid about their fiction is terrifying
Have you been to an oncologist to have the lump in your neck examined? Pussy ass faggot, what you described isn't terrifying. Weakling.
>could have been a good thread discussing whether or not the idea of a 'canon' had a place in art
>instead immediately turned into a fedora wankfest
Thread is shit, I'm out.

If that was true they wouldn’t have shown Heaven and used Catholic imagery at the “place in between” in the new Dr. Strange
that’s just raimi being based

Holy shit it’s him!
No I’m Barney
What board is that?
The only universally loved religious movie is Passion of the Christ and “they” wanted nothing to do with it.
ridiculously autistic
Canon is the core of all storytelling. Without canon you have a series of unrelated scenes, like a Family Guy episode
He’s not wrong. Batman shouldn’t kill, but if somebody takes it that direction, it’s nothing to cry about. Changing a characters defining characteristics (race, gender) is dumb though.
The idea that a story should restrict itself to adhere to a canon to the point of making it worse is retarded, yes. The only thing you have to look at to prove this is Arcane, there is a shit ton of differences, but Arcane was so phenomenal that no LoL lorefags ended up caring.
Not killing is one of Batman's character defining characteristics
Most movies were meant to be viewed with a Christian lens prior to the ‘60s anyway. Many films are a subversion of that, even to this day.
It doesn’t define him. Somebody could push him over the edge. Being white and male is something nobody could change, and if they did, it would be quite the silly story.
The fact that you think Batman being a white guy is more integral than him not being a killer shows a disgusting amount of brain rot. Batman can be a green alien and still be Batman, but a Batman who mows people down with a gattling gun is a fundamentally different character. Unironically Into the Spiderverse is a great example of boiling a character down to its bare essentials to see what's truly at the core of it.
kektards absolutely BTFO
No. Consistency in a plot is important, otherwise you could just make it entirely gibberish and expect people to follow -- which they won't and someone will dishonestly pretend they will.
Double tapping every last goon is not a compelling “killer batman” story but if that’s the best you got, continue to bark about brain rot.
/pol/ will never recover from this
>Double tapping every last goon is not a compelling “killer batman” story
what do you mean by this?
>the Batman created by its creators is not really Batman!!!
Fucking casual retard.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with a fictional series having its own canon. Assuming several writers are involved, it theoretically helps to create a groundwork for how characters should behave and what the world they interact with is like. The problem arises in especially something like Star Wars, where fans treat its media more as vehicles to add as footnotes to an encyclopedia, as if the galaxy of Star Wars operates on a plane that actually exists. The focus becomes less on making a good film, and more on crafting the illusion of intimacy between characters and audience.
I said someone could push Batman over the edge, you responded something about Batman using a Gatling gun to kill everyone that crosses him. We’re talking about two completely different Batman.
it's an utterly shit word in itself. looks like cannon, sounds faggoted and is only said by plebbit types.
keep in mind that it is applying a religious term, the officialisation of a Saint, to whether or not superman drinks coffee.
someone is now desperate to confirm whether or not he does.
nothing wrong though with setting rules for a character or world or story and keeping to them. rules are what make a game fun, every game has rules. rules are not just about control, they are to add challenge or creativity, otherwise it just becomes a grey mass.
worse than the terms in op's post are the unbearable idiots who talk about box office, weekend takings, and the general economics of it all, as though it is somehow their problem, or that they are taking a 10% slice of the eighty quadrillion.
that's demented.
they don't even talk about qualities of the film, just "ohhh hhoooo hooo it's going to hit 5.5 million in its first weekend so that puts it neck and neck with - ACK
but that simply creates either a new canon or a dead end in the story
canon can be changed
if arcane stays as good as it is it's not unthinkable that the lol canon might change to adhere to arcane's version more or it could simply create a seperate canon.
Canon is simply the basis on which you continue an established setting. it's fine to go against canon but at that point it has to be introduced like you would introduce a completely new story/character/concept.
Maybe, but you can’t completely discount it. Religion is as natural to homo sapiens as breathing. Without it they die. If there is an absence of formal or traditional religion in a pleb’s life, be sure there is a workaround in place, some kind of transference or substitute in operation. Often it is some popular mythology such as comic books or video.
/pol/cels... did we just lose?
Go back to isreal you baby murderer.
nice vague gesturing
Sorry I've should've been more charitable. I my mind I was thinking of Batfleck who obviously doesn't care about killing at all. Yeah, if the story is about Batman contemplating his ideal of not being killer, or that ideal being tested, that is fine.
fedora cringe freaks are the only one that use the term, and aren't even aware it is a religious term. those are also the same type to be antifa supporting anti-religious cretins, as shown in this thread.
Yes. The X-Men created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby are not the real X-Men

>nice vague gesturing
No, it was pretty on point. Kane and Finger's Batman killed, but somehow in that mentally challenged brain of yours you conjured an idea of Batman that's truer to the "character" than that of the fucking authors who created him. End yourself.
lmfao
why are christians so fucking retarded though?
Uh-huh, despite those stories still being in canon. Nice fanfiction.
Exactly what I'm saying.
A story should be internally consistent, of course. It just shouldn't have to adhere to the canon made by some random.
Zelensky was put into power by Kolomoyskyi, a Jewish media billionaire Zionist. The two of them pilfered over 5 billion dollars from the major Ukrainian bank, about 5 percent of Ukraines GDP. America invaded a country thousands of kilometers away over imaginary weapons of mass destruction. Jewkraine wants them on Russia's border. They funded bioweapons labs all over Ukraine and Nuland admitted this under oath.
