Evangelion really has top tier art direction and animation. It is also a blueprint for Japanese bug-tier narrative writing that was later exemplified by, say, Taro Yoko (Nier Gestalt) or Kojima (MGS) where completely nonsensical terms are thrown around just because they sound cool to the creator. The biggest flaw of Evangelion is that it strays away from being a simple alien invasion biomecha anime. This also ruined Serial Experiments Lain which I still pretend is about a girl hacker that likes electronic music.

My favorite episode was the one where the kids are stuck in their entry plugs the entire episode and its just Ritsuko and Misato chatting about Ritsukos mom whilst Ritsuko fixes the computer

Irl I probably wouldn't be attracted to Ritsuko since she is a dumpster fire but she's my favorite character for the virtue of being the most even tempered relative to the others

Shinji being such a little bitch makes Evangalion unwatchable for me, and I don't think it's as deep as it thinks it is. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a much better anime of the same period. If you want something recent, Vivy: Florlurite Eyes Song might be the second best anime I've seen and is a compelling sci Fi story about self discovery and trying to find yourself and become your own person.

Watched NGE for the first time a few weeks ago and, yeah, it lives up to the hype. A fantastic show, at least up until the last two episodes which are shit because they ran out of budget. This is why you should stop after 24 and then watch End of Evangeleon!!!FACT!!!

It's fine, then it gets great, then it becomes Iconic, then a decade later it's just alright, then alright again, then weird, then really weird again but in a great way and I hope that last bit of weirdness becomes Iconic and that Anno never has to do Eva again.

also the style looks good in pictures but the actual animation is typical cheap anime garbage
the opening is fantastic though, the only complaint there is that it might fool you into thinking that you are going to watch something good

This is opinion is always shit. There is clearly design throughout the entire series which sets up the ending. The Christian images relate directly to the characterization and the final sequence is a prolonged crucifixion. Why do atheists seethe so much at this show.
