Is too much budget a bad thing for star trek? Why does it not feel like star trek?
Is too much budget a bad thing for star trek? Why does it not feel like star trek?
Old Trek had simpler looking designs. It implied that the tech was user friendly and functional. Modern Trek looks needlessly busy and unapproachably complex in comparison.
>feel like star trek
Have you set your Star TrekĀ® brand vibrating buttplug to Warp 10?
Budget isn't the problem. The people spending it are.
You mean why doesn't it "feel" like TOS or TNG? Because it's not TOS or TNG.
Even the Motion Pictures didn't necessarily "feel" like the TV shows, so such a criticism is redundant.
Being TV shows, I would say in the past they were definitely limited by their budgets and it shows, but in that they did a lot more with less and later with the movies that's what made their special effect all that more impressive because it was stuff you couldn't get in the shows, but now that all the Star Trek shows are like that, it's not special anymore.
Always depends on the script / tv screenplay, and whatever self-insert the libshit faggot that writes it.
Cool and Star Trek don't belong together.
Why does Orville feel like TNG
Even when it's obnoxiously unfunny and disgustingly gay
>brunnete post wall RR
my dick is somehow diamonds
no, but bad writers and producers are
It doesn't feel like star trek because it literally is not star trek.
It's not the budget it's the writing, or just where this story fell within the season. It's a pretty bog standard Shit Planet episode, but they spent so much time on setting up the series that we didnt get enough time on the planet. All we knew was that there is civil unrest. It made the moral lesson ring hollow because it was delivered to cheap paper dolls instead of the usual deluxe cardboard cutouts.
You might have a point there. TOS was forced to rely on interesting writing and characters because they couldn't actually film any believable-looking space scenes. In fact I remember reading somewhere that they came up with the transporter to begin with as an easy way to film people going between the ship and planets. Then TNG is comfy, it has a great set design where the bridge looks like hanging out on your couch but you're in space, meanwhile some other parts of the ship are dark and moody. They only had a few sets that they used over and over for hundreds of scenes, so one felt like one really got to know each of those locations. Then DS9 has its own comfy vibe because it's basically supposed to be a rickety former Cardassian station that's now half Federation, half weird bars and shops and stuff. It's interesting to see the Federation uniforms against the backdrop of the Cardassian gray. And again, there were only a few sets so they got to seem lived-in.
On the other hand, lots of shiny modern-looking computers kind of design just doesn't feel particularly Star Trek probably in large part just because we have seen it in so many other movies that there is nothing about it that says "Star Trek". It just seems like generic sci-fi design. It's like if you made a Blade Runner sequel but put in modern-looking computer technology. It would just not be the same aesthetic.
Star Trek always sucked. And it's a show for commie pedos.
They had to go with the polyjuice potion is wearing off note to build tension. Such weak, predictable writing.
I'm not entirely sure how to word this but as someone who was definitely sensitive to it, I feel like sci-fi media has somehow successfully purged anyone who was actually interested in fictional locations or objects
Nothing new "sticks" the way the Enterprise-D bridge or the corridors of a Star Destroyer or the Galactica or frankly even a Ha'tak or Lexx or whatever did
No one will EVER care enough to try to rationalize every inch of the USS Discovery like this
You're absolutely right
The shitshow that was Discovery Season 3's finale episode, with Burnham fighting the Orion crime boss in the turbolift shaft, is all the proof anyone needs to know that the Star Trek production staff is populated entirely by businessmen and not a single nerd who knows or cares about the franchise
They made the turbolift shaft a fucking massive, empty chasm bigger than the DS9 starbase, and I am not joking
It's actually fucking retarded how badly they got the scale wrong
Well, Gary Hutzel died a few years ago who was fx supervisor on both TNG and BSG
lmao, you made me look
what the fuck?
>this is inside the ship
>this is inside a ship slightly smaller than Kirk's Enterprise
yes, it's quite awful and that might be the reason I dropped Discovery more than any other reason
>and there were dozens of reasons to drop it already
>Why does it not feel like star trek?
Because it's relying more on sfx and being flashy than it is on good writing. In other words it's been made 'mainstream' which means it's dumbed down so that the common two-digit IQ people can understand it. So naturally it's trash now.
May as well be that CW show Pandora.
dogshit art direction is the problem
One of the bigger problems with star trek is the movie lighting. They do all this fancy shit when the old shows just had cheap ass tv show soap opera lighting. In the context of something like Star Trek, a perfect brightly lit room just feels more real and believable than everyone in the main deck working under moody blue lighting.
It's funny how pic related is the best modern trek show without being Star Trek.
>Why does it not feel like star trek?
Because its fucking gay nihilistic BS and has nothing to do with the budget
>Why does it not feel like star trek?
>Incidental Music
Today's shows and movies have no Incidental Music, so everything is soulless and without identity.
See examples of good Incidental Music in tv shows

TOO FUCKING BRIGHT
FFS
The best Star Trek shows have much comfier bridges. Imagine working a goddamn 4, 8, or 12 hour shift on one of these modern Trek bridges. A fucking nightmare.

Oh god what the fuck is that
no no no
Nig is his best friend, he's nog

I fucking love the DS9 Ferengi
they would be ripped to shreds for being leh racist stereotypes. look at how people seethe about the harry potter shit.
the fact is, the Ferengi are honest depictions of a culture obsessed with amassing wealth. if you see this and think "OMG leh Jews," maybe you're the one who has problems?
they are also fucking entertaining as hell to watch
muh heckin' based 90s secret waifu, Meghan Gallagher
>Is too much budget a bad thing for star trek? Why does it not feel like star trek?
It's not the budget, It's because it's visually cold and dark which reflects our modern view of the future compared to the bright and colorful optimistic view they had in the 60's!!!FACT!!!
I thought the message was pretty clear, if you have a bigger WMD you can make inferior civilizations join your adventure club.
they could have cut the Spock Sexytime segment entirely and fit more development in for the planet or the rest of the crew
I like this Pike but i have no real reading on anyone else
I would like to see more of Nurse Chapel, though. cute!
They're not my favorite but you have to respect how they went all in on such a weird, awkward, uncomfortable alien species.
DS9 seems to thrive on discomfort in the topics it covers, now that I think about it.
That's a great crop, what book is it from?
Nobody working behind camera has military experience which is fine, except the production crew don't understand that Starfleet is a military organization.
they're so horny, too. it's great. just amps up that awkwardness.
of course not. It's at warp 9.95. DUH
secret Ferengi thread, bros!
a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man!
>literal space jews
It's a wonder how the kikes even allowed this thing to exist
Based Trek writers. The Ferengi look like Southern Baptists compared to pic rel, who had so many negative Jewish traits he could've come out of Goebbels' sci-fi anthology. Nonetheless written by Jews, and performed by one Jew with another Jew playing his victim.

I love the beginning of Voyage Home where the crew is just sitting around in the dark monitoring stuff. Really sets the mood that it's probably the night shift and everyone is just taking it easy.
>Old Trek had simpler looking designs. It implied that the tech was user friendly and functional.
I remember reading somewhere that old trek purposely made the ships feel "comfortable" because of how long the crew would be on the ship out in space from a psychological perspective and that's why the ships had carpet and smooth textures with calming neutral colours
Yeah, as a kid I loved poring over all the details of Trek ships, finding cutaways and deckplans wherever I could, but when I look at NuTrek ships the magic just isn't there. I think it died for me around ST09, when it was revealed how ridiculously large they had made the ship.
It looks the same, the difference is just in the lighting.
50% better already
>if you see this and think "OMG leh Jews," maybe you're the one who has problems?
STFU faggot, the problem is kikes
thats so much better
low tier IQ posters BTFO
definite supporter of israel. Hide your gold lads, this fucking kike will rob you blind if you're not careful
>Why does it not feel like Star Trek?
Because it was made by people who know nothing about Star Trek and deeply hate the fans of Star Trek.
wait why is No 1 at conn?
only for the milkers, son
I've no ambition to mass more wealth than I can ever spend in my lifetime. Give me $500M and I'd donate 495M of it to public works that I'd be highly involved in to develop my region of the Midwest.
You can't bribe this man with gold, no, that won't do. He can't even be bribed with the blazing stones of the celestial city. No, this man can only be tempted by the promise of a better tomorrow.
I just want to make my piece of the world a little better and help guide it to less suffering.
My original hometown would be a pliable piece of clay to mold. Just 900-something people and the majority of the residents live on the streets coming off the same highway. It's along a highway between the seat of its county and the more prosperous country next door.
There's a large existing plot of land dedicated to a public parks area but most of it is unused grass, a baseball diamond and basketball court.
Build a manufacturing facility or two, some high density affordable housing, influence for mixed zoning, grease the wheel and help others start small businesses, and more.
Build a bike path through the whole village, allowing the lower income residents to get around without a car at a decent pace.
Near the local elementary school, I could buy up the single family homes and build higher density housing that the pedos couldn't reside in.
The money would go so far in a place like this, bros. It would benefit so many people and could be a great example for other cities to observe.
>Muh "LOOKS BETTAH"
Fuck off autists, it looks horrible. Looks like they're flying too close to a sun.
god, imagine looking down on this jewess slobbing on your manhood while her hangers bounce freely, smacking into your thighs
