I think Ponyo looks much better in motion than stille. It's my favorite Ghibli movie followed by Howl's.

Agreed. Ponyo had crazy animation.

Ghibli marathon on bongstream d0t live /feandro it should be subbed. But you could get the eng dub turned on if you asked.

I really liked ponyo for some reason.

Cringe

I'm gonna watch Belle today. Looking forward to it.

For me it's Mononoke

I just watched The Wind Rises last night. Mixed thoughts. It's only a good film, but if it had just been tightened up a bit and if the ending was a bit longer it would be Miyazaki's best.
As it is, his best remains Porco Rosso.

*bomps*

I'll get around to watching the Wind Rises soon. First I gotta catch all the Takahata kino's.

Attached: poster-780.jpg (780x1170, 122.75K)

I've gotta watch Takahata's stuff, I've only watched Miyazaki's movies, and I've seen all of them that I'm interested in at this point

It's shit.

Try Princess Kaguya. It's a pristine masterpiece. Best Ghibli film imo.

Attached: Kaguya.png (1920x1024, 1.89M)

That's easily the one I'm most interested in, so I definitely will. Even if the plot disappoints, I know the film will be absolutely gorgeous

Obscure Danish kino.

the best miyazaki film

Why?

>Even if the plot disappoints
You're in for a surprise buddy

Way too many themes have been shoehorned, the virtual reality world makes little sense, and boring characters. Hosoda's worst work.

Music is great and catchy.

Agreed. The only good thing.

Should I watch the dub of this?

Saw wings of Honneamise the other day, not really what I expected looking at the cover but what a beautiful film, loved the art nouveau style

Just watched Angel's Egg. All I could think of is how much of an asshole the dude is. I felt really sorry for the girl.

Immaculate art style otherwise. Drop-dead gorgeous. But I wanted more. I don't like the "open to interpretation" approach.

Your tranny opinion isn't important.

One of my all-time favorites, though I do think the tone is a little too wacky in the latter half of the film when we're supposed to be doubting the lead's morals. He's trying to rape someone and it ends with him making a goofy face, it's just doesn't work.

The newer Eva movies do a good job if trying to keep the 90s aesthetic with newer technology, but there's just something very soulful about OVAs in the 80s and 90s that nu anime lacks.

Hayao Miyazaki is a bitter, resentful old man that is way past his prime and talks out of his ass about things he doesn't understand. But he made some good movies.

Miyazaki is a massive idealist. The creations he puts on paper clash in juxtaposition with the state of the world. Especially his views on children. So it is understandable that he grew to be an extremely bitter doomer in face of a reality he cannot swallow.

Watched coraline for the first time last week. it was kino

>that shot of the house
soul

I think you're giving him way too much credit.

kino

No, you're being too harsh on him. He might be (occasionally) abrasive in real life, but this isn't born from callous old guy crankiness. His creations ooze hope and buoyancy and various ideas he thinks are lost to people.

I attributed it to japanese cultural differences + it was a different time but you're right it did feel strange
The scene where he flies for the first time is one of the all time greats

Is there a bigger version of this? I swear I've seen one somewhere.

He's been super bitchy and bitter for like 15 years at least. Seems to be timed to when he stopped making movies. I sorta hope he dies since he doesn't do anything and just bitches and moans.

Gotta say I actually enjoyed 3.0+1.0 after the shitfest that was 3.0. It was a great ending to the series and a lot of fags got filtered and butthurt. Stopped watching anime a long time ago but saw this as soon as I could with little expectation and am glad I did.

he's been directing movies on and off for the past 15 years. he's even directing one right now.

I think AoT is a failed Gantz (manga). Yes, Gantz is also kind of a mess, specially those last chapters, but at least Gantz managed to have some good character arcs (Cherry being my favorite) and the end wasn't straight up offensive, just meh.

Pretty shit choice of still to represent Secret of Nimh. Misses the films primary color entirely, red.

The vid you linked has a crimson filter over it. pic related is an example.

>I attributed it to japanese cultural differences + it was a different time but you're right it did feel strange
I would too, but apparently the director wanted to sell cels from that scene to promote the film, and the animators hid them from him because they thought it was so appalling that he'd treat a rape scene like that and that he was misunderstanding the point of his own film. So it's definitely not entirely a case of "different time, different place, different values", but more a "the director was a fucking pervert".
That said, I 100% agree. The film is fantastic and that flight sequence is one of the best in movies.

That is actually native to the original release of the film on VHS. The pic you linked is from a remastered version on DVD.
It originally was that red. I base this on absolutely no evidence and am now sticking my fingers in my ears refusing to hear otherwise.

Ferngully doesnt get enough love as great as it was. Even had a star studded cast.

The talentless despise the talented.

>most of this is tranime
>animated films as a whole genre
I'm genuinely glad that no one takes the animation genre seriously. Bunch of reddit-browsing YouTube "content-creating" retards who are too autistic to be normal.
You realise that animation is specifically for kids because it helps them understand emotion right? It's like a developmental genre and we've been using it like that for years. Education and "dumb entertainment" is all the genre is good for.
Any story done in anime/animation can be done 10x better in a different genre.

A few slideshow shots of a movie that you cherry-pick to fill up an image that has no themes, no impressive art nor any kind of merit or symbolism will never, ever prove it to anyone apart from those who don't know anything about how to make film or what's actually culturally relevant.
