The sequel kind of lacked the strong, focused narrative the first book had. Aside from that it was pretty good until the pacing collapsed in the final third and it rushed through the climax and ending. It feels like the author, who is not a professional writer, got too ambitious after the first book turned out so well and created too many diverging plot threads in the sequel that he then couldn't wrap up in a satisfactory manner.
