A digital frontier
I still don't understand why this wasn't a bigger hit. I rewatched it at a local cinema few months ago and it has some of the coolest scenes and set pieces I've seen in a kids film. The first disk wars and light bike scenes are so much fun. I have no idea why every kid in the world didn't become obsessed with Tron in 2010.
The cars, the bikes, the ships, the disks, the world. It's like the perfect movie for 10 year olds. Even the characters are fun. Why was it only a modest hit?
Me self inserting as the protagonist getting stripped down by some hot program babes
>tired perfect system joke here
That it was a Disney movie that, intentionally or not, effectively had a pro-piracy message. At the very least it believed information should be free in the way Richard Stallman thinks.
I can't believe Disney produced the most aesthetic driven, unique looking movie of the 21st century.

getting high, booting up elite dangerous, blasting Daft Punk's track "C.L.U." and getting into dog fights.
Still don't know why there is no 4k release, this film is a prime candidate for HDR and Dolby atmos
Tronheads do we hold out any hope for the Garth Davis movie? I hope they keep the same tone and aesthetic as this one.
It was filmed in 1080p digital so it'd take a lot of effort to upscale to 4K. Not impossible, they did it with Star Wars episodes 2 and 3 but it takes a lot more work than a traditional 4K remaster and Disney probably isn't sure if the market is there for it.
My favorite didney movie
Loved Zules as a sort of David Bowie character
>Biodigital jazz, man
to this day me and my brother respond in the affirmative to one another with "YeeaH"?
I love this line
willy wonka
I hope Grieg Fraser shoots it. He's been doing the prestige genre tour of hollywood with Dune, Batman, and Star Wars. Would love to see him shoot the Tron world
AM I STILL TO CREATE THE PERFECT REPLY.
My favorite part was Jeff Bridges and that hot girl robot.
>My favorite part was Jeff Bridges and that hot girl robot
She's not a robot, she's an iso. isomorphic.
Obi-Wan Lebowski. Of all the "former heroes returning as old man mentors" tropes he was my favourite. Was it the first example of that?
Was Flynn a coomer?
For me it's the everything except the lack of a decent followup.
My favorite element was the costumes and props. I think they knocked them outta the fucking park. Admittedly the best part was arguably the soundtrack, but I feel like the audio and visuals blended very very nicely together.
BIODIGITAL JAZZ, MAN
I like pretty much everything from this movie. Man I even like the animated show that tied into this.
If I have to take a real guess as to why this never took off I'd say unlike Star Wars this world doesn't look like something you could get lost in. It's not just cold and sterile it's more than that. It has no humanity to it, the programs might develop into a real life form, maybe another birth of ISO's but even then they'd have to bring life to the world first in another sequel.
Maybe it's because we spend no time really being in that world, we get in, immediately get lifted off the streets, dumped into the arena and are on the run afterwards. It's pretty much just the bar scene that sets up a place and a population, aside from the crowd at the games and both are hostile environments in a way so where are we supposed to sympathize?
You're right. It's hard to picture what "day-to-day" life looks like on the Grid. I don't know how many stories you can really tell there.
My favorite part was the creator/creation subtext and associated conflict. I'm a sucker for father/son shit.
Your local cinema showed Tron again? Fuckin' nice. Was it one of those private showing type deals, or did they just say "Fuck it, Tron tonight 7:00PM come on down"?
latex legs
thats about it
For me it's Tron Uprising.
Just the whole look of it. It's probably the slickest movie ever and an incredible contrast to the jumbled CGI messes of Transformers, Marvel et cetera.
>"Fuck it, Tron tonight 7:00PM come on down"?
It was this. The Melbourne IMAX, it's the largest cinema screen in the whole world I believe. They play older movies all the time like Akira, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, even Apocalypse Now a few years ago. It's honestly the best.
>not Quoomer
So close...
>robots can be people too
soulless metal hands made this post
begone spawn of satan
What a lot of people have said here. The costumes, art, set pieces, Hell the soundtrack was great! The story was ok and some of the acting was meant, but otherwise I love the look and feel of it.
>Melbourne
Ah, that explains it. You're in an infinitely more cultured country than I am. Cheers.
For me it was the inspired clothing.
But also the whole damn movie.
>It's hard to picture what "day-to-day" life looks like on the Grid.
Shitposting on terachan
Soundtrack was good, visuals were nice.
I genuinely have not seen Legacy since about 2012, but I rewatch the first Tron at least once a year.
>Dune, Batman, and Star Wars
All of these looked like SHIT
the pinball machine
more like Tron: GAYgacy
Saw this shit 3x in theaters in 3D. The transition from 2D to 3D when he gets scanned into tron was film history tier amazing.
not latex but yes, legs.
3D version?
Saw it opening night at a museum IMAX, and fucking rocked....
And fuck "jimmy carter of mars" and "forgettoland" tanking half a billion, killing TR3N.
Pixar directors can t into live action.
On the upside DW-Orlando getting the light cycle coaster soon... may have to go to that hellhole for that ride then leave.
*smiles weirdly at you*
I hear there's 2 versions and the LE version is the fucking bomb
Too based for this world.
Loved it. Every single aspect.
pathetic trips
BIODIGITAL JAZZ MAN
Daft Punk.
Also the aesthetics were kino.
Gonna be a rebel and say the one thing I didn’t like, Tron got shafted. It would’ve been fine if there had been a sequel, but as is it was way too “subvert expectations” and lame. I’m sure they knew they were pulling a classic Disney abandonment, they should’ve had an alternate ending to work him back in.
Tron was never about Tron
RINZLER!
