The problem is James Cameron wrote T1 with the fixed timeloop theory in mind. Kyle was always supposed to go back in time to birth John Connor, and the cycle continues. Sarah ends the film knowing a war is coming. Cameron kind of retconned that idea with the whole "No fate but what you make" timeloop break in T2.

Cameron always had that concept from the beginning. Sarah says it in deleted scene in T1

I've always thought the retconning timeloop thing didn't make much sense. If the future war never happens, then Kyle doesn't have a reason to be sent back to birth John Connor, thus creating some kind of paradox. That's why I thought Genisys at least tried to explain some of it with the idea of alternate timelines.
