Ace was not born a hero. He became heroic as a result of his failures, which gave him the perspective to see what is really important in life. Even if you are posting from your mother's basement after a month-long session of beer and hentai, there is still hope for you. There's an Ace in everyone.
Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast!

What a guy!
Old thread:
> rewatch the 'better than life' episode
> realize that I and probably most people would end up doing exactly what rimmer did and just accidentally think themselves into horrible situations
what a nightmare game
Of course I post in the old thread first...
Having re-watched all of the run so I could watch The Promised Land last year, some of it is still fresher than other parts. Back to Earth going meta hurt, but then the follow-up series were somewhat better. So far classic Holly showing up for cameos cracks me up more than anything from the show.
If anyone wants a good deep dive, the behind the scenes specials have been ripped and posted on YT for ages which make for a good run to see all the shit that happened as it went on. Still crack up that Kryten continues to be the "new guy" to the rest of them.
I was lucky that the KERA PBS tended to be such a hardcore supporter of Red Dwarf over the years that we'd get massive marathons during telethon season and they'd get paid off quick just to go back to the fucking show on TV. Or going to Dallas Comic Con back in '92 and you'd see Red Dwarf shirts (from the telethons) being worn every few people down the line to get in. It was the best of times. Red Dwarf's popularity got them to pick up other titles like The Brittas Empire where even young me learned how fucking good of an actor Rimmer was despite always playing an annoying little git.
Most people probably wouldn't end up building their own hell like that, they'd likely lose themselves forever in a paradise of their own creation then wither away and die useless husks in the real world. If it becomes hell you'd want to leave, and be better off for it.
Red Dwarf is pretty fucking dark actually. People usually miss it, since all the comedy, but the themes and underlying writing is there.
What a guy…
Never thought about that before. They could have easily made that episode into a classic lotus eater scenario, but they chose to make it even darker. Yet somehow it's still funny af.
Chris Barrie couldn't be much else after Rimmer, like that kid from Game of Thrones (the blonde one who hasn't been in anything since). Barrie narrated the audiobooks mimicking the other cast members voices so well, I didn't realise it was all him until years later.
All these RD threads are gonna make me watch it again. Oh well, BOYS FROM THE DWARF! *shakes hands like a fool*
It was fun to see him pop up as the stuffy butler in Tomb Raider 1/2.
The soundtrack was at its best in the first 2 series

Did you watch Brittas Empire as well? Doing Brittas and Rimmer probably got him typecast to the point that producers think that's his thing. Which is a shame, because the fact he can flip from Rimmer to Ace and back again proves he's an incredibly underrated actor. It's so weird to see him be a normal human being, but he's nothing like any of the characters he plays.

Is this the beginning of a Red Dwarf general?
>Kryten continues to be the "new guy" to the rest of them
They got newgirl in series 7. How is Robert Llewellyn still the newfag?
I like that the polymorph episode implies that Rimmer calls Lister by his last name out of anger and Lister calls Rimmer by his last name out of fear.
I hope so. It's probably the best sci fi ever made, but rarely gets attention from normalfags. Incidentally I've never met a dwarf fan I didn't get on with, so it's probably a pretty good way to make friends IRL.
Really did not care for her. Kryten was right, Lister was too good for Kochansky. Any of you Dwarfers care for Lexx? It's one of my favorites, and the constant sexual frustration didn't detract from the show, imo.
Its Farscape for me. Only scifi show comparable to Dwarf.
red dwarf is just another member of le quirky nihilistic scifi "comedy". It is much better than hitchiker, which is peak reddit soi garbage, but RD has many of the same themes and undertonnes. at least lister has a goal tho
>le quirky nihilistic scifi "comedy
Never post again in this thread.
seethe cope and dial nihilonigger
Flashheart was born a hero
Imagine being this braindead. Oh no, you don't have to imagine, you are a drooling cretin mongoloid.
Wasted trips. Why are you like this? We're having a comfy Red Dwarf thread and you feel it's your duty to come in and spew nonsense. I would hate to be such a joyless cunt all the time.
but user who cares, nothing means anything! go eat you chicken vindaloo and make another joke about being lazy shit
without him the mission would go astray
Lexx is fucking kino, I actually didn't mind the running joke that the love slave never got dick (partially because pratfall and partially because she was constantly simping for Kai)
Imagine being triggered by a character in a 90s comedy scifi comedy show.
the absolute state of your life, lmao.
you are the one seething ITT user
Because she didn't last. She had the minor pop in for BTE, but that was it. She was busy and then they wrote her out when it went back to series on DAVE. During the Red Dwarf special that was tagged with The Promised Land Kryten jokes that they still rib him for being the new guy despite the 1 season difference because he's the only one still around.
Still haven't watched the Farscape series.Have it downloaded along with LEXX, but both aired (along with Andromeda and Stargate) back when I was working too much. The only one I don't have grabbed is Stargate and it's spin-offs. Bablyon 5 was easier for awhile since it aired right along with Trek on Paramount.
1st Kochanski was best Kochanski, but she couldn't make it back for filming so she got replaced. It was fucking wild to see Clare Grogan pop up on Father Ted.
>Lister was too good for Kochansky
In potential, but not in practice. As he himself recognised when the inquisitor forced him to be judged by himself, he's got brains he's never used.
Kochanski is the exact opposite having mediocre potential, but having fully realised it by growing up in a perfect simulated environment at cyber-school.
>comparable to Dwarf
I like Farscape too, but it's nothing like Dwarf. Dwarf is in its own separate category.
>chicken vindaloo
>not lamb vindaloo
>or prawn vindaloo
ngmi
>t. didnt watch RD
>prawn vindaloo
you trust bangladeshis with seafood?
yikes
beef vindaloo is the best
i had a dodgy beef vindaloo once so i never risk beef curries anymore.
My local are Bengali, so I trust them with it.
>1st Kochanski was best Kochanski, but she couldn't make it back for filming so she got replaced.
I thought it was better in a way. Claire Grogan's Kochanski is an ideal in Lister's memory. Having her come back would be incongruous, because she is too perfect for the ragtag crew of Starbug. Changing the actress made it easier to make the character believable.
Do it user. Red Dwarf marathon.
>Read the novels expecting more of the same
>It's played completely straight instead
The concept of a drug that could addict you by looking at it felt a silly dwarfism, but bliss and better than life were absolutely nightmarish
Last Human was kino. Like if they final Hitchhiker's book was good.
I should have watched this when it was still on the air. I would go to houses and people would have marathons and I just couldn't get into it. Which is a shame, because the 90s sci-fi channel had a lot of cool shit that I watched
I remember being a kid going for a walk in the woods and I passed by some random house with a shed and on the back of the shed somebody painted a giant retro Doctor who logo and a giant red dwarf logo. This was back in the 90s and I had no idea really what those shows were. Now they are some of my favorite shows of all time. I will drop anything to watch classic Doctor who now and I'm always quoting or watching red dwarf I wonder if they had a subtle influence on me all these years.
When I was in high school I had one friend that had seen the show and he would rave about the backwards episode being so clever. He grew up in one of those weird houses where his father didn't work and just recorded TV shows on tapes all day, so he was always watching old Star Trek and British shows that the dad recorded from PBS like Dwarf. I ended up still not watching it until many many years later right after Back to Earth when it appeared on Netflix. Then a friend from England came to visit, asked if I watch it, and turned out to be a massive fan. I think we marathoned every episode of the time in about 2 days. Fucking love the show now
ol after first one all hitchhiker books were bad. the red dwarf suprisingly held a higher quality prolly because it didnt copy the show too much
Why smeg?
>but rarely gets attention from normalfags.
Red Dwarf unironically filters them
kino
alright hol
I'm thinking of rewatching the original 6 seasons, maybe season 7, then jumping ahead to season 10-12. Will I miss anything worth watching?
Originally I gave up during season 8 when it was new, it just wasn't fun anymore.
>like that kid from Game of Thrones (the blonde one who hasn't been in anything since).
Joffrey's actor literally quit acting to become a doctor because he hated the industry but he loves his fans and will take time out of his day to chat to you if you recognize him. I know someone in Dublin who's met him a bunch of times just in passing and he remembers him by name every time he sees him. He's a chad.
Alright, dudes. If you haven't seen "Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg" you owe it to yourself to change that right now.
google.com
>Will I miss anything worth watching?
Not really. All the plot events from series 8 get more-or-less retconned by series 10 anyway
season 8 isn't that many more episodes to go to finishing so i think you should watch it just to complete the original run (though 7 and 8 were a fair few years later)
I'm overdue a rewatch. Good call, Dwarf-chad.
Red Dwarf best to worse.
Series 5,4,3,2,1 then 8,7,6, then the awful Back to Earth, then 12,11,10 and the awful Promised Land.
I wish they'd stop thinking that RD is Motion Picture fare, its not. Its low Budget Character Driven BRITISH HUMOR!. Stick with that.
Back to Reality best of all.
