Is Matrix Resurrections the ultimate pleb filter?

The movie is shit but I enjoyed the way it explicitly have the finger to the studio, to fans, to the viewers, and to the franchise itself. I've never seen such an insulting film and it felt novel

idk I liked the other sequels exploring further than that initial concept, like the realities of that kind of world, there has never been a fully bad matrix movie

even in the sequels, I mostly liked stuff in the matrix. smith's descent and the merovingian (who's also funny in this one).

oh yeah i would still agree the biggest strengths of the franchise is the stuff in the matrix, but I liked that they didn't just do the matrix again, which they did for this new one

When you understand this is a self-satirizing meta comedy, it’s hilarious. I absolutely believe you’re supposed to laugh at how stupid off-brand Morpheus and Mr. Smith look. Neil Patrick Harris has played multiple villains in comedies and this role follows suit with an appropriately hammy performance.

The more action oriented and lore oriented parts were the most boring parts by far. The closer it gets to acting like it’s a real movie taking itself seriously the worse honestly. But I enjoyed it. Thought it was extremely bold and quite funny, a good statement on reboots and directorial control and an impressive squandering of studio money to basically call them assholes and tell them to eat crow

Yes it is. It’s a decent sci fi flick with cool concepts and good continuation of matrix lore. The only thing that makes it worse than the original 3 is that it doesn’t have as good cinematography or sound design. Other than that it’s a solid movie.

first half was extremely good. second half not so much, but still nice. Of course it is not as iconic as matrix, but still better than most movies and worth the time

I agree and I’m pretty sure Lana does too and that’s the point of the movie that’s trashing reboots having Chinese knock-off characters. “His story was done all that can be made now is poor imitation and contrived narrative if you bring it back”. That’s one of the main points this movie seemed to be trying to drive home

or they could have expanded the lore of a 20+ year old trilogy that had games, comics and animation included into it's canon for the fans instead of making a fuckit movie that people wasted money on. They could have scrapped Neo and made a prequel or completely changed the characters if his story was done. Just a waste of good sci-fi

they could have completely re-did the first movie word for word scene for scene except with a younger cast complete with the detailed fight choreography and modern cgi but include the old cast as part of the matrix i.e. keanu as the architect, carrie moss as the oracle. It would have fit into the whole matrix repeating thing and been kino.
The problem is once you create a universe/lore it stops entirely being solely yours. How many writers/directors were there for star trek/star wars 40 years after the fact

My opinion of this movie is WB went to Wachoskis and said "make another Matrix or we are making it without you", like the line in the movie, so they made it bad on purpose knowing this wouldn't land with the initial fanbase. If that's true, then good on them.

I don’t think it’s a stretch when they spent the first hour of the movie shitting on the entire concept of rebooting the matrix

t's not good. Even though the meta commentary and the themes are somewhat compelling, the moviemaking aspect is not good. The acting is stilted, Keanu behaves like he's got Parkinson while the rest of the actors are not very talented. The camerawork and color grading makes everything feel like a fan film. The visual effects for Morpheus reeling or the bullet time are beyond embarrassing, the action feels fake and weightless, etc. The plot is just whatever, not even complex enough to be good or bad, it's just sort of there. The movie could have been a well-oiled machine with good acting and tight directing but a hollow story and the same point would have been made efficiently.

It's 5.5/10.
