you are taking the woman's perspective assuming she is honest even after she is revealed to the the main antagaonist - there is nothing to suggest rape and beatings other than the fact that she was taken as a slave and made into his wife she simply didnt love him because she resented her initial imprisonment. the early scene where heimir mentions her getting wet at fjolnir and he becomes enraged, presumably because hes onto him, but then aurvandil defuses the situation this is really key in understanding aurvandil's innoccence and why amleths avenging him mattered he represented the old (remember the mysterious ship?) true way and fjolnir and the traitor queen represented deviance from that that had to be set right.
