Michael Mann makes literally nothing but crime/heist movies and they're all boring as dirt. His best movie is best known for not being as good as Silence of the Lambs.

Director's Cut is a bit long, but other than that it's a great film. It's just a classic thriller, with two great actors in the lead roles. It doesn't try to be anything more than that.

I haven't seen it in quite some time but I do remember thinking they could have trimmed it down by about half an hour

The engine would. Secondly, they're shooting at really far ranges with the robbers using ARs while regular cops only sport pistols or shotguns. Thirdly, the rotating overwatch is a good idea on its own and doesn't have to be utilised in a situation where you're outnumbered (even though you probably should if you are fighting an enemy who outnumbers you and you are forced to relocate). Lastly, it's a movie.

Yeah I know the engine block would, that scene has a good part showing that. Other than that bullets go through the rest of the car like butter, on top of that bullets can ricochet off of the pavement and hit people ducking behind the car. Idk the full angle of this scene but it's an example of what I mean
