I would make a show that would be episodic with every episode being a not connected to any others to show the scale of the 40k world,
I would show all kinds of wars the IoM fights,
IoM vs IoM over petty factional infighting, the tithe, religious disagreement (not chaos related)
IoM vs Chaos, from lowly culists vs PDF and Imperial Gaurd all the way up to space marines vs chaos space marines and a full battle in the void of space, from mthe crazy maths of firing weapons that take hours to reach a targed to bloody boarding actions.
IoM vs Xenos of all stripes, with minor xeno factions being given the same attention as a legitimate threat as the major xeno players like Kroot, Q'orl and OC xenos like in 'astartes'
I would front load the series with an episode from a Tau's perspective of the Imperium since their world view is closer to ours than the IoM is.
Narration starts making a specch about science and reason and finally travelling the stars before encoutering a hostile and dangerous alien race. We this hostile alien land an invasion force on a colony world before we see they're humans and the narration is coming from an alien.

I'm going the Space Hulk route. Maybe a rescue mission on a derelict after an exploratory mission goes bad. Could easily make a multi season series with that backdrop. too late for that user its already been fleshed out. Plus theres plenty of kino along with it. 40k cant be done narratively as there is too much going on and not enough continuous plot points to base a story off of unless you do a lot of time skipping or go with the new primaris stuff from recent years. Like it or not HH is probably the best way to do a continuous series
