Brannox began the show being this character that was just as fascinating and captivating as Lenny, but then after becoming pope he did practically nothing. Lenny comes back right before the end, saves the day, and completely upstages him. There was a great story to be told about the normal guy who has to succeed super genius miracle worker Lenny, and to this day it makes me angry because I really loved Brannox but most of the show is him being aware that bad things are happening all around him and choosing to ignore it, when it should have been all about him being out of his depth but still trying.

Yeah, the beginning 3-4 episodes set up some kino storyline about him being Lucifer or something. There some serious hints about him being very shady despite the outside appearance of a gentleman, kinda like the opposite of Lenny. I was extremely captivated by his speech to his parents which for me stands up there with some of the best moments in the Young Pope or even cinema in general. Malkovich fucking killed it in that scene...
...And then he turned out to be some random cuck. Like how could you drop the ball so much? It's like Sorrentino just decided to abandon a set up storyline and go in an entirely different direction
