That's your own headcanon though. His conversation with cardinal Gutierrez was clear - he wasn't going to change but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be friends. He went into a coma because saw his parents or though he saw his parents which was the reason for the pain he held all his life.

In New Pope Lenny is like "yeah, I was wrong. so sorry, time to die". Absolutely spits on the character and the whole first season which had very interesting and philosophical debates and never took "sides" like the usual Hollywood shit. The viewer was allowed to decide on his own whether he agreed with Lenny or not. NP goes entirely against that.

I'm not sure. My 15yo sister is becoming interested in religion and philosophy but she's still very impatient and probably not mature enough to understand the main talking points of the Young Pope. She would probably understand nothing of the show and only remember the quips. It's more a show with 20something with late religious curiosity and the hots for Jude Law.

the first season was okay but the second was just awful. i got 3 episodes in and realised that it was just really good music with really nice aesthetics and the story was next to nothing. so it basically became some tradcaths deviant art account in tv form

The new pope premise was to deconstruct the young pope and mock those who took it seriously and really wanted a radical Pope like early Lenny.

Of course /tvpol/ took it rather badly.
