VHS was always shit. everyone made the leap to dvd the instant dvd players were easily available, there is literally zero fucking advantage to VHS. crt tvs for old games is a debatable subject, VHS and crt for other media WAS ALWAYS SHIT. it is pure nostalgia wankery, and if you weren't even alive when VHS was still a thing and were born into a world where DVDs were already standard you are a wannabe faggot retard.

older games were made on crts with crts in mind, not ridiculously high resolutions. all vhs does is make movies look like shit. its not like watching the movie on film.

it could be though, just because 100% of people use the ultra cheapo tapes at 6 hour setting doesn't mean that was necessary. vhs could be good again like audio casettes.

It took a while from when DVDs came out, to when you could record on a DVD like you could on a VHS tape, and the home DVD recorders were expensive.
Most people opted for a DVD player, with a built in VHS recorder, which were a thing for at least a decade or more.

The other thing that isn’t mentioned, is that early DVDs didn’t have as long a runtime as VHS tapes.
Some movies were cut down for their DVD releases, maybe to keep proper DVD resolution, and it’s hard as hell to find the longer VHS versions of some B-movies.
I think the dual layer DvDs solved that issue, but not every DVD released used that format.
Also,
Some early DVD releases were just the VHS film transferred to a DVD.
The video quality sucked.
