There was already a Resident Evil movie series.
I watched this last night after someone in a thread yesterday told me that it did the "zombie outbreak in a city" premise better than Resident Evil: Apocalypse. I was horribly duped.
I'm genuinely surprised at how lame this movie was. It legit felt like a higher-budget fan film. It's not even like it was a shitty movie with fun over-the-top zombie action, because the zombie stuff was also really fucking lame. A lot of it legit looked like video game graphics, and I wasn't sure if that was actually supposed to be the point (I think they recreated a few of the iconic zombie shots from the games?). But I guess the production company realized they were producing a turd, and just shafted the CG budget?
The older Resident Evil films were also shit, but they had the dumb campy quality which at least kept them a little fun/entertaining to throw on in the background. This was just ... lame.
Umbrella corp: Profit until the end of the world
Why did they think it would be a good idea to adapt both the first and second games into the one movie? And a short 90 minute movie at that. Neither half got enough time to actually do anything.
Quite literally everything
From beta leon to ugly bitchy claire
It did have "Itchy, tasty" reference
pretty much everything
>Lisa Trevor wandering around unsupervised in an orphanage
>no T-002 AGAIN
>shitty G, literally the RE: Extinction Isaacs mutant AGAIN
>no HUNK
>shitty Wesker x Ada subplot that will go nowhere
>actually several of these that will go nowhere because of the abject failure of this movie
>references: the movie
Would have benefited by having a different director and screenwriter imo. As the other anons pointed out, this a bad fan film with a budget.
Fuck, this tv series pitch is even better than the whole movie. Goes to show the power gap in competency.

Trying to adapt Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2 at the same time.
End of the day the first game is about a team of cops, some with alternate agendas, investigating a zombie infested mansion with a secret lab.
RE1 wouldn't be hard to adapt in the right hands. Or even merely decent hands.
Watch the actually canon kino instead
I do, friend. I like these dumb movies. They have soul.
that's less retarded than the one where he gun katas with some white hair fag
Based. I only got around to watching them recently and as an RE nerd i had a lot of fun. The first movie is ok, the villain was weak in my opinion and the animation was a bit stiff, but the other two were schlock kino. The action scenes in the third movie had legitimately impressive choreography. Third movie ended on a cop out though.
that scene is fucking great. Hits all the spots.
The casting, the terrible characterization, the nonsensical decision to do both RE1 & RE2, the poor visual direction, horrible using of licensed music, turning the STARs members into incompetent clowns, or psychopaths who are happy to murder their coworkers. I think it might be easier to ask what went right. Maybe Chris' actor looking the part?
>It legit felt like a higher-budget fan film.
That's allt he feel of the Netflix productions. Huge budgets, but still lack that cinematic feel and look. They look kinda cheap. Look at Cowboy bebep.
This series really went to shit
/thread
You got it in one.
A BLOO A BLOO
Cry me a river MUH CLASSICS poser schizo
Hunk was in. For fourteen seconds.
hol up did my attention wane enough for me to miss operatorkino?
WTRC already had a pretty thin budget, but around 2019, Sony slashed the budget even further, and any scenes that required significant VFX work were cut or reduced. The movie is okay. It's not terrible. But it has an identity problem in that it's like a weird imitation of the games, in stark contrast to the older films which had their own style.
It's like Total Recall vs the Total Recall remake.
The lighting was good and it had some nice action shots (like the truck sequence).
Many of the zombies also looked good.
Not much more than that though. Was thoroughly ass-blasted by CGI at the end.
Should Hunk get his own game?
this one was Sony not Netflix. the sure to be shitty netflix version isn't out yet.
Reminder that game fans talk about the CG movies as being "canon", but Capcom can't legally use anything from them because they belong to Sony.
>welcome to raccoon CITY
>is actually a tiny town with about 3 people in it.
The Netflix show will likely have really good VFX, since it has lead VFX people from the 90s, as opposed to much younger people working on stuff like WTRC. The Netflix show is closer to the Andersonverse movies, while doing its own thing, so hopefully it carves out its own audience and style.
Nigger Wesker.
Pandering to gamefags, because when RE1 was made, Raccoon City was absolutely some kind of mining town-like thing. Also, proper city scenes cost more money.
*Albert Wesker
Casting wogs and nogs as whites.
Revelations 2 literally references the second movie:

>The independence movement is gaining strength again in Eastern Slav Republic. The reason is the socio-economic stratification of society due to economic growth. President of ESR, Svetlana Belikova, successfully concluded negotiations with the opposition, but the truce was short-lived.
In October last year, the ESR had violated an uneasy truce, and announced a grouping of pro-independence a terrorist organization. The movement's leader, Ivan Judanovich, said that the state ESR broke off the truce due to the fact that the mineral resources were found in the autonomous region. He added: "We are ready for armed resistance until the end". At the present time the civil war is raging in ESR. According to the eyewitnesses, is suspected that biological agents [name] may be used in the conflict.
Repeating the latest news from the ESR...
The movies also always reference the games.
The newer ones at least have gone back to their roots.

Just wait until the TV show, bro. Pic related.
I always pictured RC as beeing like 100-120k people. Enough for a city but nothing special. Also, it's strongly implied that STARS is a special task force that gets assigned to RC in the intro. They are either state or inter-state special police task force. This explains why some tiny town has some huge as decked out SWAT team.
This element is dropped, and later series just say that STARS were always part of RC.
nah. HUNK is best left as a side character. shows up, does something cool, then fucks off.
You don't need the rights to make references, user. That's why RE6 mentions the character Rani from Degeneration, albeit with a huge translation error.
None of the characters from those movies can appear in Capcom's games because they don't own them. And the personality traits character have in those movies cannot be reflected in Capcom's games. As an example, if Leon were shown to enjoy Sprite in a CG film, his game counterpart could not express a sudden love for Sprite because this would infringe.
>Mulatto playing Jill
>Pajeet playing Leon
Shitty casting for starters
What that screen says, but unironically.
Name a single character from a CG movie or piece of technology or similar that originated in the CG movies that was then used in the games. No, saying their name doesn't count.
You can refer to a person that exists called Sherlock Holmes who is a detective that lives in London, but if you have Sherlock Holmes in your game, and he is excessively kind (which means he arguably doesn't fall under public domain because public domain Holmes is a dick) then you will possibly get sued.
>netflix show will have really good vfx
Lmao. Have you ever seen netflix shows before?
Dodgy special effects not withstanding its a show about weskers daughters set in the future. Its gonna be unadulterated dogshit and probably even lighter on actual zombie content than both shitty live action adaptations
Take the L, loser.
Looks pretty interesting. The obvious problem is that they're setting up Jade Wesker as an Alice expy, and she's not Milla Jovovich. Why do people watch Resident Evil movies? For Milla Jovovich. Literally no other reason. So borrowing plot ideas and character archetypes from the Andersonverse (Albert Wesker has basically been merged with Isaacs) doesn't mean the fans of RE will come, because they want Milla, not off-brand Milla. And Lance Reddick is obviously an appealing actor, but can he fill the giant Milla-shaped void in this project?
You sound kinda racist, DESU. I've noticed that the RE fanbase has a bit of a racism problem.
You said they could not use anything. A game directly names movie characters, plot and events making it clear they are part of the same property and canon.
>Looks pretty interesting
No, it doesn't lol.
The only racism problem is that nonwhites still exist.
Remove nonwhites, remove racism. Simple as.
And then some!
>Lmao. Have you ever seen netflix shows before?
Have you seen the resumes of the people working on the show?
>Dodgy special effects not withstanding its a show about weskers daughters set in the future.
Yep. It's basically Final Chapter 2.0, but there's 15 million survivors instead of 40,000. They've even got the Alice in Wonderland imagery. The white rabbits, the caterpillar, everything. I hope it's kino.
I've got the joy, joy, joy down in my heart. I've got the joy of Jesus down in my heart.
Honestly way better than Infinite Darkness. Damnation still the best CGI animated film.
First time on Yea Forums? The casting sucked and was only done for the sake of gaining diversity points. Otherwise there was no point in brown/blackwashing already established (and popular) characters from the games.
This movie was initially sold as a streamed movie then at some point very quietly they changed it to getting a cinematic release
you sound like a mark that would buy anything with a resident evil logo on it. If you think any part of this show sounds good you have brain damage.
Could have just said "oh, that's cool" and save yourself the embarrassment.
>Umbrella corp: Profit until the end of the world
Of all the things about this movie, this is the one thing that makes it interesting and they never lean heavily on that. In the older movies they were literally in a post apocalyptic nightmare yet still had like casual board meeting.
>posts the poster
>that gay ass filename
Netflix is down to volunteer work in the shilling department.
The legal situation with Resident Evil projects is fairly well understand. Capcom don't own anything from the Constantin projects, obviously. But their refusal to use anything from the Sony movies points to a pretty big issue -- they don't own them. They can vaguely refer to them, but none of the CG movie characters ever appear "in the flesh" in the games, much like how none of the characters from the live action movies ever appeared in the games. "But they mentioned a character over the radio!" That's fine. If you don't own the rights to a character, that character might be permanently on holiday. Don't have the rights to an actor's likeness? They're only ever seen from behind with a double. Rights and copyright are complex.
But I guess the plot in RE games is so thin that only being able to vaguely refer to events in radio broadcasts doesn't have much of an impact.
no they haven't you marketing spewing unironic zombie
>most of the cast is black
Hard pass
Take the L, loser.
cast him
Somehow, there were lore deepcuts, nods to the remakes, some great setting designs but it was complete shit otherwise. Terribly miscast with a lot of character assassinations, I couldn't believe the gorilla from Umbrella Academy was the stoic calculating Wesker. Or Leon was the dude from Victorious. The plot makes barely any sense and trying to combine the plots of the first two games in a 90-minute film was a very bad decision.
Hunk is the Boba Fett of Resident Evil and should stay that way. Nothing good comes out of expanding a mysterious side character
You have to remember that the current people at Capcom are making bottomed out off the bottom of the barrel garbage like 8. So if they can't even get the games right, there is no hope for the movies or TV shows.
It was ok, but forgettable
Of the two announced projects, this was supposed to be the "good" one. I can't wait to see how much of a trainwreck the fucking OC wesker show is.
Interesting. I share this opinion but was under the impression that everyone wanted a HUNK game. I'd like to see him appear in a new game in his usual role. 7 was the perfect opportunity and would give it an actual legitimate link to the main series and good plot twist, but of course, it was not written to be RE by someone who knows RE so we got "Redfield" hackery instead.
How is that movie set in Andersonverse if there is a 2nd Wesker? How does that make sense? Is the twist that he is adopting Wesker's name or "Albert Wesker" is some title or he is a clone?
Why not? They wanted to try to make a decent RE movie, and failed anyway but not for lack of trying. Cast the best actor for the role, I say. Roll on the meritocracy.
>you sound like a mark that would buy anything with a resident evil logo on it.
Only if it resembles the Andersonverse, or preferably has Milla Jovovich starring in it. If the show flops, hopefully they'll bring Milla back.
they made Operation Raccoon City, which was basically a Hunk game. i had fun with it, the game had potential, but the story line abruptly stopped as soon as it got good. wasn’t well received
It's the bit where the police chief's trying to leave the city.
If he's not THE Albert Wesker then it's not against canon
He was pretty badass in Operation Raccoon City. The entire game was ass but the only redeemable part was the stage where he was leading you into invading the Umbrella facility.
Nigger Wesker.
RC has STARS because of Umbrella.
>>that gay ass filename
You've read the leaked script, right? The song "Down in My Heart" is used in the Umbrella Corporation Joy -- For Kids commercials. The company is up shit creek, and their commercials suck. When the first zombie dog appears in the script it's just Jurassic Park in the kitchen except a cartoon bear is enthusiastically shouting "I've got the joy, joy, joy down in my heart" playing on a nearby TV.
>Netflix is down to volunteer work in the shilling department.
Netflix marketing isn't allowed to begun until a month before release, so June. It's a point of great contention within the company because it doesn't give them a lot of lead-up time to explain to people what their show is about, and let it sink in.
It's a refreshing change from the usually white-dominated casts of previous RE projects.
But user, if you remove nonwhites then whites would have to do *gasp* WORK! Couldn't have your beautiful manicure getting ruined now could we? Now run along and play with your friends. Chop chop.
Is it racist to want to marry Sheva?
>implying niggers work
kek
Capcom had plans for RE: Hunk but those have been canned. Their next big game is Resident Evil: Apocalypse, aka Resident Evil 9. The most logical story direction at this point is to continue what they're doing with Rose Winters, aka budget Alice.
This reads like something written on facebook by some tween girl. Get the fuck off this board, underfag.
>ha nonwhites ar eour slaves working in sweatshops for fuck all money making everything for the superior white man
>ha as if nonwhites work
user, you can't be this fucking stupid. (Well you can obviously but you get what I mean)
Once again reminding you Raccoon City detective kino was denied.
>huge mutt girl
god she's so cute!
her tooth gap is such a turn on
>Hunk is the Boba Fett of Resident Evil and should stay that way
uh, didn't they make a show about that?
The story was garbage and relied on an edgy twist
They really fucked up pay walling 50% of the game
The gameplay was janky as fuck
None of the characters were interesting
That said I wish they took another crack at a game like that and got it right this time. The only redeemable part of that game was the main theme that got played over and over and over again still stuck in my head to this day
>Get the fuck off this board
Or fucking what? You'll fuck my pet dog? That's what you "types" do isn't it? Fuck dogs?
>only memorable character in the games are the various settings
>they only use the spooky monster mansion setting for 15 minutes.
Its almost like the people making these films and shows have no idea what actaully makes the good resident evil games good in the first place.
They're using ideas from the Andersonverse because their parent company owns the Andersonverse. The leaked script has the slogan, "Our business is life itself." And Wesker is the chairman of Umbrella. Which is an Andersonverse thing. But it's a reboot, basically. A do-over. There's some suggestion that the apocalyptic side of the story is based on a script they were going to use for a Final Chapter sequel. Which is why Jade Wesker is so much like Alice. This show is probably a mixture of multiple pitches merged into a single narrative. But we don't know a lot about the show beyond a leaked 2019 episode 1 script that has likely had rewrites since. They have been hugely secretive about this show's plot beyond episode 1.
You've been replaced by machines for years, nigger. Real craftsmanship is white craftsmanship.
