All the added backstory for vicious was stupid as shit and heavily detracted from the show too. He's not the kind of villain that benefits from being humanized, he's extremely goofy and only exists as a plot device.

There's so much cringy dialogue and overly melodramatic moments in the Cowboy Bebop anime that could be sold to the audience thanks to the fact that the context of the delivery was that of a Japanese anime. Benefit of the doubt about cultural misunderstandings and mistranslations allows viewers to see past the awkward (though still skillfully crafted in terms of art, music, and animation) presentation and appreciate the themes and art behind it.
Live action didn't have the benefit of the doubt of mistranslation AND subpar production.
