Also, the LotR comment was because WoT was very obviously just them testing the waters with a big budget fantasy show (and spending a big chunk of the budget to build their new studio in Czech), so no matter what happens with LotR, WoT has already fulfilled its purpose and isn't needed anymore.

Not really, especially considering it was a Sony production at first. Amazon got involved after most of the pre-production was done, they just wanted it for content and Sony doesn't have a streaming service so they wanted somebody like Amazon involved.
Amazon didn't really use anything as a ROP test run, they just hired people who have experience in running big budget and successful fantasy shows which is why 2 GoT producers were brought on for s1

I'm not so sure about that. An exec for prime video said after the season finale that their goal is to make big fantast block that will draw people to the platform. Carnival Row in the summer, followed immediately by Lawd Dem Rangz in the fall, and then Waste of Time season 2 probably in december. I think they really want Amazon to be the fantasy service so they might prop up this abomination of a show for at least another season to solidify their brand.
Season 3 won't start filming until during or after season 2 airs if it's even renewed.
