Why haven't you made a kino yet?

Everytime I try to make something my own, I end up with big roadblocks. I can animate, but I suck at drawing, I'm good at editing and I'm okay at filming, but my voice isn't palpable and I have no presence. That on top of the fact that I have no network and you have a whole lot of half finished projects.

We need more people with good taste and interesting ways of looking at the world to make art. We have an overabundance of people with ambition but no talent.

join a facebook group of local actors and post a casting call. if you have a script, people will want to act in it for free to build their showreel

Yeah, feeling braver (or whatever) than other people isn't a goal of mine. I just want to make art that I'm proud of, and hopefully it will have a positive impact on people.

People need to realize they can make a good film with just about any camera. As long as the content is interesting and the acting is at least halfway decent, that's what really matters.

I plan on making a feature length film with pic-related within the next 2 years.

My old boss who runs a small business made a movie. He shot the whole thing guerilla style in town (no permits, etc), and now it has made its way through a bunch of amateur film festivals and has reviewed very well.

He sent me a link to watch it before it was released, I honestly thought it was going to be some godawful shaky unmic'd handicam travesty, but it was actually really good. I was genuinely surprised at the level of quality he was able to get out of modern consumer grade filmmaking equipment.

He wrote a script, filmed the scenes, and edited everything, so now, no matter what happens in the future, he can look back and be proud of the fact that he made a film.

I did. I'm waiting for film festivals to get back to me.
It's really fucking difficult to do without a team that will basically work for free. I was more-or-less a one-man-band and that just meant it took forever.
The hardest issue is finding locations. Sound editing takes so fucking long and even then there's no guarantee that the result will be good

Should mention this was a feature film.
Making short films is really simple and straightforward if you put in the time and have a few hundred bucks (on top of the couple of grand you spend on gear)

Simple content goes a long way.
Just saw Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, same director that did Drive my Car.
Wheel was so simple - mostly just conversations between two people in locked-off locations where it would be cheap to film. Almost everything was implied in the script, no flashbacks or fancy location changes. Must have been dirt cheap.
