it really is a fucking tragedy. They have some of the greatest characters ever created and the original actors and they WASTE IT ALL. I've been a diehard Trek fan my whole life and I literally cannot get through a season of this. I just stopped watching. Its like worse than Rian Johnson tier

it's good but they gave all their budget to Discovery and probably that new show coming up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, so a lot of the new season is just them on Earth, but it's not as bad as all these chuds are saying, but it clearly didn't get a budget boost and isn't in space that's just the truth

Might genuinely be the worst thing I've ever seen on a TV screen. The writers have absolutely no idea what they are doing, not only with previously established characters but also with the new ones they created. It's not uncommon for an episode to contradict itself multiple times, contain nonsense contrivances or logical inconsistencies which would make a middle school fanfiction writer cringe. Before watching I didn't even believe it was possible a TV production could be this bad without it coming out of the shittest tier African countries.

Still criminally bad but has some more spark than the first season. And I do mean spark.

Abysmal character development, massive plot holes, illogical behaviour en masse, badly contrived false peril, the weirdest impromptu musical performance ever, laughable “action” scenes, complete disregard for important events and lore established in TNG/DS9/ENT, ham-fisted sociopolitical messaging and some of the cheapest and shitty looking sets.

Young Guinan is decent in it, actress nails it (although the character is far more cynical and bitter to Whoopi’s era).

Im not a huge fan of all the Star Trek as a franchise, but I love TNG with a passion. That said, I never felt so offended as a fan of something with this crap. Its baffling. Its like someone got hold of marionettes of the characters and tried to make up a pantomime without actual knowing them.

Season 2 started strong but turned into complete shit.

user, I go outside from time to time. I don't know anything about Star Trek Online. I enjoyed most of season 2 until Boobaborg started eating car batteries. That's when season 2 jumped the shark.

It's probably like they need Star Trek to do well because it's the only thing they have so they don't care about the actual product so long as they aren't losing subscribers.

Though it seems someone is self conscious about making a good product because with each new show they hype it up as something the fans will love but they screw it up every time. So someone isn't quite getting the message.

It's so fucking bad they aired season 3 trailer three episodes into season 2 lmaooooo

I know people who are huge Trek fans and they enjoy even the new stuff that gets put out, but over time they change their minds. People are just so desperate for new Trek content that they're blinded by the quality of them for a while.

surely, surely someone watched the first season of discovery and had a moment of self-awareness. It was melodramatic goop. They just hijacked an IP and did whatever. It's not star trek. The setting could have been anywhere in new york with the same dumb plot lines. It's like if I took Friends and made it into a horror slasher prequel. Makes no fucking sense.

Only Prodigy is good, and it also comes with a caveat.

The series would have been better with each season as an individual movie.
There is some good content here, buried beneath a heap of filler.
If they trimmed all the parts of the ensemble cast and condensed each season into two hour long movies/episodes, it would actually feel like a decent installment of the TNG movies.
But sadly there's a lot of filler.

Worse than the first season, which wasn't that bad as people are saying.
That being said, it's still 100 times better than STD.

Maybe once the rate of subscribers starts to plateau they might actually sit down and think about what they're doing wrong. Paramount and CBS have always been stubborn because they see how passionate the fans are and want to make more fans and get more money, but they can't do that without alienating the existing fans.

I wish I could go back to all those times I've met Doug Jones and tell him never to touch Star Trek.

I've been following PIC purely through osmosis but I was skeptical when people started saying it was course-correcting in S2 just based on the pilot. That's why I prefer waiting until a few episodes are out and see if general perceptions stayed consistent or if they fell off a cliff. PIC just sounds like all the issues of STD but with Patrick Stewart's senility and inability to get past himself thrown in for good measure. Even since TNG, his favorite episodes to film were ones where he was doing a lot of action and romance, which isn't exactly what Picard was best known for.

To his credit, it really speaks to his acting range that he was able to so effectively portray a character he basically had no connection and nothing in common with and probably would find dull and boring if he ever met him in real life.

The only criticism they took to heart was that the absurd violence of S1 does not belong in Star Trek.

I had my doubts about LD but it's consistently veered closer to what Trek should be than the live action shows. Even SFDebris is talking positively about it and he's a pretty hardcore purist.

Star Trek has pretty much run its course with shows like Voyager and Enterprise trying to bring it back to its roots but it just became even more convoluted as each writing team couldn't help but keep adding to it in a vain attempt to keep it fresh. They could have gone almost any direction with the series. Romance, atmospheric horror, mystery, focus on the science team(s), etc. Instead they just tried to do star wars. There are some obvious things that every series and movie has neglected but instead they just wanted melodrama and saving the galaxy. I can just see kurtzman pitching the show as 'le biggest and craziest le ever' and it while it looks good, it's so poorly written and clearly written around the explosions and updoots that none of it makes sense. If your ground zero isn't logic, then star trek is never going to work. kurtzmans ideas are from a time where blowing up planets was like the coolest shit imaginable. but it's over saturated and relies on constantly hitting the ceiling for that dopamine rush. if the amplitude is at maximum, it's just going to be a flat line. Idk why that jew faggot doesn't understand this.

The only good new Star Trek is a cartoon.
