Just binged this Kaiju kino, what did I think about it? Did Skull Island innovate the Kaiju genre or was it the same old formula?
Kong: Skull Island
Reddit: the motion picture
that's not deadpool
Skull Island is definitely very redditish, but did it do anything right? Did it innovate the genre? I am honestly racking my brain to think of anything and I'm coming up with nothing.
that's not blade runner 2049
That's not Joker
Skull island was probably the best of the monsterverse movies. It had a theme with the whole viet nam thing, good soundtrack, most of the characters were great, comfy ending.
Okay movie. Way better than Godzilla 2014 or kotm but not nearly as good as GvK. Sucks because chadzilla is way better than virgin kong.
It’s like nu Batman where it exists purely for people who hated the previous iteration for taking itself too seriously. It’s a reactionary b film with some okay scenes.
For the first time an introduction to a new version of Kong is a new story instead of another remake of the original. This is something that Merian C. Cooper wanted but RKO took that dream away from him. Instead Kong never became a proper franchise and the crown went to someone else.
Have there been any other Kaiju films set during a war? Was Skull Island set during Nam or after?
That's an excellent point, no other Kong movie was original or tied into an extended universe right?
How do you binge one movie?
Should have been a crossover movie with the Predator and not a leadup to a crossover with Godzilla.
Brie Larson shooting a flare gun while standing on a stone spire should have had the same effect as Po throwing his hat near the end of Kung Fu Panda 2
I didn't stop it once, I kept my tiktok feed on mute the whole time :)
Watching it over and over while pissing in jars Howard Huges style.
Kong would slap a gay Predator back to his homeworld.
Brie Larson ruined this movie.
Is that a monkey?
Nuh uh.
Kong is a chimpanzee :)
her chest was distracting
John C Reilly's bizarre, hammy performance ruined this movie (final scene excluded)
I like the Predator but a crossover with a kaiju seems like a weird idea.
I'd watch Predator vs Engineers though.
How do you 'binge' a single flick?
The Engineers only have size and strength on their side, apart from that they're just blue medieval peasants who play with alien goo. Predators have ultra advanced technology and invisibility cloaks.
>weird idea
What's wrong with Predator: Big Game?
Fake kinoisseur detected
>Predator vs Engineers
There's a comic where this happens. The Engineers are actually super strong but a Pred manages to kill one.
Some good talent
>John Goodman
>Shae Whigham
...wasted on a horribly written monster movie featuring terribly cast/directed meme actors:
>John C. Reilly
>Brie Larsen
>Samuel L. Jackson
THIS. Blank faced wooden bitch in every scene.
This was a weird time before Captain Marvel when everyone liked Brie Larson and her boobs
It would be way more cringe if she acted like some stoned hippie laughing all the time. She smiled more than enough and they should've capitalized on the Laura Croft wannabe reporter angle more.
Preds have fought everything at this point. Maybe a kaiju crossover wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
>Samuel L. Jackson
He ruins every movie he is ever in, the only reason he gets cast is to try to get blacks to buy tickets.
I don't remember anything about this movie except Brie's tits
That never happened.
The opening where they play "It ain't sneed" was kino. After that I don't recall much.
I liked the 2005 one best, but it was long as fuck.
The main thing that makes Brie unlikable is her cuntish personality. She is sexy and has great tits, if she played that up more she'd be tolerable.
Eh, I've seen worse over the years. I was talking about the character. It felt like they had potential but none of them were fleshed out much.
Especially Hiddleston.
Hiddleston was totally wasted, his character was pretty likeable too. Shae Whigham was kino as fuck as usual, his character was almost used effectively, his death was subversion kino.
The funniest thing about this movie is that it was made right after Wanda Group bought Legendary, so they inserted Jing Tian as a background character with barely any lines. She’s like the PRC’s version of Awkwafina, i.e. an astroturfed meme actress who got several roles opposite big stars despite not actually being popular or having a lot of talent herself.
She can't act is the problem.
Mmm cheesy booba
Entertaining film and had some kino shots
It was fun, and nice to look at, but the central conflict was unengaging and I didn't really care what happened to anyone, including Kong. The best of the recent American Kaiju-verse flicks. Still nowhere near as good as Pacific Rim.
1973, so after I think. Like they were pretty much fresh out of the war and that's why they were chosen to tag along. So it gave the film a kind of identity the others didn't have at all. Certainly no music, the others were all just original scores
This kind of role doesn't require that much acting though. And she has an academy award so the least she could do is depict what is essentially a video game protagonist.
The issue is that they didn't really write much for the character and this goes for the rest of them too.
Kong was the most interesting thing about the movie.
Better than Godzilla 2014, but worse than KOTM, which was itself worse than GvK. The Monsterverse movies progressively got better with each new entry.
Is that a gremlin?
Honestly yeah. My favorite Goji film is Shin, but I enjoy the wild nature of the American ones. It's the kind of movie that's great to see with company.
>he is sexy
Not as kino as Godzilla 2014, but a fun flick in its own way. Shame about KOM and GvK tho, the series has a lot of potential.
A nice pair of shoes won't make you good looking
Footfags are cringe. Booba connoisseurs rule.
Zilla 2014 is underrated
I do think that the soldiers are the most kino aspect of the film, all non military characters could have been cut and it would have improved.
As a kid my dad made a vhs tape that was just my favorite scenes from various movies. It was entirely the dinosaur scenes from jurassic park, all the action from Starship Troopers, ect... The monsterverse films would be ideal for that sort of of compilation, because they have nothing else going for them.
Spoiler that shit.
She is nasty.
Here we have two people that can't distinguish between a slow but good movie and a slow piece of shit, but want the cred of good taste and patience, so they pretend the piece of shit they watched is actually good.
Can you think of a single thing that Skull Island did differently from any other Kaiju movie?
