bigger is better

i don't see any reason why you'd want to watch a whole movie like that unless you were interested in seeing a lot of boom microphones and grips and body doubles

I have conflicting feelings on open matte, so I usually keep both. Mainly because matte ones are lower quality WEB-DL so it wouldn't be as simple as clipping the video frame in player whenever I want director's vision.
Like, I watched Drive and could feel myself thinking like one of those anti-open-matte elitists, how it fucks with the scene setup. But then Blade Runner 2049 works really well with it, maybe because it got more thought put into it thanks to IMAX release.

You should always watch any given piece of media as intended by the directors as composition and other visual elements are designed around this intended vision.

Open Matte is the GOAT

this

Avoid 4:3 shit. Thankfully they've re-released many shows in widescreen, such as The Wire and Baywatch.

4:3 is the kino aspect ratio. Widescreen is trash.

> Thankfully they've re-released many shows in widescreen, such as The Wire and Baywatch.

the only movie that should be watched open-matte is Dolemite

Average human vision span is somewhere between 8:5 and 4:3
Widescreen (16:9) is more vertically narrow than the other two (16:10 and 16:12), the benefit of that is that when watching a movie the view is not obstructed from the bottom by OP's mother's head as she's sucking your dick.

1.66:1 or BUST

has anyone shot an entire movie in portrait mode yet

Buuuuuuuuuuulllshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Full Metal Jacket

you will never fuck prime kiki in the ass

post a link to that 35mm Spider-Man. I know one of you has it.

If you don't trust the artist to properly frame their art then don't watch it
This is like 'restoring' a novel by adding back in random chapters the author and editor cut out

widescreen ruined television.. the quality of commercials have went down down downhill drastically... the colour.. the creative imagination.. gone. 2009 was probably the last year we had true color to anything... every thing now is pukey and bland. its sad.

so wait is there a downloadable open matte version of spider-man?

where can I get it

if someone has the ghostbusters (and prob indiana jones)35mm it would be greatly appreciate it

sry bro didn't think it would be so easy to find, but I'm still struggling finding the ghost busters one

Both

open matte restores a lot of off screen nudity in some movies

t. coomer

where does one acquire this

Where/how can I watch movies like this?

honestly go over and ask /wsr/ you lazy fags.

Any decent torrent site.

Red Cliff has more shit on screen.

but where do they come from originally?

they get ripped from streaming services or off of tv broadcasts. private trackers have them.

Open Matte Titanic is actually good.

Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters are anamorphic movies, there's no open matte version

16:9 is unironically a more kino aspect ratio than 2.39:1.

Widescreen is a meme

i still don't get how chopping off the top and bottom of the frame gives more space for the sides

lmao

how can it be open matte and 1080p at the same time?

virgin

>bigger is better

No matter the aspect ratio 1080p has always the same orizontal resolution, wich is 1920. When you crop to the 2.39 aspect ratio what changes is the vertical resolution.

kino mode engage

why the FUCK did 16:9 pc monitors become the standard? the vast majority of computer shit is shit in widescreen format and my old 1024x768 dell was so much more comfy than this shit

Can i get some examples :)

Pride & Prejudice (2005) looks a lot better in open matte.

>4:3 is the kino aspect ratio. Widescreen is trash.

Attached: 1.jpg (640x480, 25.26K)

but is 1920x1080

You got it backwards, 1080 is the constant. For example 1080p 4:3 movies are 1440 horizontal ×1080 vertical

nevermind, I saw the br is cropped. I thought all open mattes were squarish

there's this one underwater sex scene that had an artificial shadow on the lower half so you can't see anything and then the open matte version removes that plus shows their entire bodies

she's literally stroking his dick and then riding it and this was for a tv show

Yes.

Anyone know where I can find army of darkness in open-matte? There used to be a project to upscale it but its not on any private trackers im on

What I mean is that when you crop a 16:9 (open matter) into a widescreen image what you are loosing is vertical resolution. The image is 1920x1080p because its the complete matte, if you cropped it to 1:2.39 it would be 1920x810p

Here's a webm

im drubnk and fucin stupid so fuck off

>boom mic in frame within 3 seconds
And this is why openmattards are laughed about in serious film circles.

Uh, what show?

it's called soul

>1:2.39
You mean 2.39:1

Showgirls

Pretty sure I have or had a pirated Spider-man disk that my uncle downloaded and gave me back in the early 2000s that's Open matte, didn't know it was a "rare" thing but it clearly isn't because it's here

4:3>Open Matte>Widescreen

Open matte isn't a single aspect ratio. Often it is 4:3, other times 16:9.

Actually I take it back, I don't think it was open matte
