Trans woman Jazz Jennings joins the cast of Star Trek Prodigy, reality show star stated that she’s a Star Trek fan as a young child.
Jazz spoke at the CBS Kids’ panel for the recent Star Trek Beyond event at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Afterward, Star Trek Prodigy’s producer Jeri Lee stopped by her and posed the question of what made her want to join the new reality show.
“I like Star Trek,” she said in response, “and I liked the one with the captain who was black… and she was a woman.”
Jazz wasn’t sure if it would be safe for her to reveal that her favorite captain had been Uhura.
“She was the first one I remember watching on TV.”
Prodigy will be the first television reality show about trans people since Logo’s Emmy award-winning Transparent.
I always believed that he would do a rebooted series starring a transgender person. I really love all of his new shows. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the future! Good for you Jazz, I’m sure all of us will be proud to see a trans woman on one of our favorite television shows! :)
Jazz really does love Star Trek. Her mother sent her a few episodes while she was getting surgery, I just had a feeling she would love it. I’m glad she will be part of it.
"I watched those shows. They were the first “mainstream” shows to show a female character who didn’t come off as over-sexualized, in a positive light. They were so ahead of their time." They are much less sexualized than anything that came after, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even today there are a lot of shows on TV that portray trans characters negatively. We’ve come a long way from those early days.

Honestly, not impressed. Are they making Pike be depressed and moody now? It was a good thing when he wasn't like that in DISCO. His good vibes were in contrast to everyone else. That's why fans liked him in DISCO. And, you can't do a beauty shot of a ship and have lens-flare ruing the shot at the same time. Show the ship, don't hide it behind lens-flare. It could've been a nice scene if they showed more constraint.

the issue with star trek is after voyager/ds9, the federation is just a few steps away from being a type III civilization. its the reason they started with the "prequel" stuff over 20 years ago now. there were a lot of places for star trek to go, just not many places that could fit on television.
don't really care because i enjoyed star trek for the writing, which has been the lowest priority with everything since 2005.
