super duper schweet
can't wait to get the best copies and put em on my rack

god i miss the 2010s

The decision the have River constantly meet other Doctors and then erase their memory is so fucking shit and reeks of nostalgia pandering

I know this woman at my work who is a big fan of Doctor Who. She is currently having a birthday this month and everyone at the office will be getting her something. The problem is she's transgender and I have no idea what to buy for this kind of person.

This is not a joke, this is not a copypasta, all I want are some suggestions and possibly ones that don't get me arrested or fired.

I miss 2010
The year when literally everyone was happy with Doctor Who
we were young and excited about Steven 'genius god writer' Moffat being in charge with a new Doctor
we were adoring Matt Smith
we were hyped as fuck for The Pandorica Opens
we were getting quality promotion for the series
and people just loved each other
LITERALLY EVERYONE WAS SATISFIED

I miss these times so bad tbqh

>be me
>24 year old virgin
>go to college
>study useless humanities subjects
>meet a girl in english literature
>pretty ugly so she's in my league
>great personality though
>she likes doctor who
>her favorite doctor is 12 just like me
>we get to know each other
>one day i work up the courage to ask her if we can be bf/gf
>"you're more like a best friend to me user, sorry"
>pretend not to be seething mad
>invite her over for dinner
>explicitly say it's nothing romantic
>i make pasta with special sauce
this is where i fucked up guys. i thought if i put the special sauce in it she would like me. because she would have a part of me inside her and absorb the love. or something like that. i don't know what i was thinking i was just so pissed off at her.
>she doesn't like the pasta much
i think she knew from the smell what it was. she hardly ate any of it.
>we watch a bit of series 8
>things are really awkward
>i try to break the ice
>"hey, you wanna know the special recipe for my pasta?"
>she doesn't answer
>i tell her anyway
why why WHY did i think it was a good idea to tell her? if i'd said nothing there would be reasonable doubt. but i just had to go and fucking RUIN it like i always do. anyway
>she flips out
>"what the FUCK user?"
>runs out of the house
>i start to cry
good thing my parents weren't home.
i hadn't actually tasted the special pasta till then (mine didn't have cum in it) so i gave it a try. god it was absolutely FOUL. it just made me cry more. apparently she's looking to get a restraining order on me. the worst thing is she left her art book at my place and i don't know how i can give it back, if i even should
what do i do, /who/?

What would be different from giving a gift for any other person?
Give them something Doctor Who related

same, it sort of started to crack in 2011
>lis sladen dies
>nick courtney dies
>they start messing around with schedule
>LKH and Wedding piss away the S6 goodwill
>River becomes insufferable

This is an abysmal newspaper - what kind of moron would use that as the photograph? It's Moffucked.

Also probably the reaction when people read the episode's script.

Based edition.

>>they start messing around with schedule
It's all downhill from there, even with the good quality writing if you can't keep the audience the BBC is gonna get desperate and start messing up more and more with the show

S1-4: Golden Age
S5: Almost as good
S6 - 9: Big decline in viewers and quality
S10: Quality returns, viewers don't
S11-13: Shit
S14: back to the start but take half as long to get here and don't bring back the viewers

S1-6: Boring
S7-11: Good
S12-14: Best
S15: Shit
S16-20: Great
S21: Sudden shit
S22-24: Mostly garbage
S25-26: Great

why do people keep pretending S10 was any good?

because of everything that came after it

Let's see:
Great
O.K.
Great
O.K.
Amazing
Great
O.K.
O.K. (bit boring)
Dull
O.K.
Amazing
Amazing

can xhe control what they reincarnate into
why would you pick black or disabled

Retard. Watch The War Games.

Part of the problem, I think, is that along the way the show stopped remembering to try and attract new audiences.

>2005 launches and appeals to a whole new generation
>2006 retains the audience and gets newbies on board with the new Doctor, plus Sarah & K9 help appeal to older fans
>2007 has a new companion to keep the show fresh, and launches 2 spin offs
>2008 has a new companion and retains the audience, peaking with the finale
>2009 garners huge interest because it's Tennant's finale, and the intrigue of a new era
>2010 everything is new (Doctor, companion, TARDIS, showrunner, Daleks, titles, music) and retains some of the older audience but aims to appeal to newcomers
>2011 goes big on appealing to America, first two parter is an epic set there
>2012 is a bit same old same old, the Ponds have outstayed their welcome, there's nothing really new, blockbuster of the week feels like a bit of a desperate gimmick, show begins to feel a bit stale, Series 7 is just average and "DW by numbers", everyone's cottoned on to the show now and that it does the same shit year on year, oh look Daleks, oh look Cybermen, etc
>2013 the show is spinning its wheels until the anniversary, they have a new companion properly but there's nothing to hook new audiences in
>2014 should ride off the popularity of the 50th but airs way later, and there's a new Doctor but a lot of people don't take kindly to the characterisation and deride it, show still popular just not as much

>2015 literally has the Doctor saying "same old same old" in the trailer, Clara is still here and arguably outstaying her welcome, the format gets a change but it feels like a gimmick again, everyone has grown a bit tired of Moffat tropes, it should be Moffat's finale but he's convinced to stay on, audiences are tired of the show, they've now spent the last few years forgetting to try and grab a whole new audience/generation of fans - they're too busy appealing to the ones they already have
>2016 crashes and burns with an unsuccessful spin off aimed at fuck knows who, show is basically off air all year, audiences are already moving on to other stuff
>2017 has a new companion but it's largely more of the same, even with the aesthetic choice to try and make the show feel 'new' again for one series
>2018 launches with a whole new era, akin to 2010, gains a lot of attention with the female Doctor, arguably is a big success with how many people tune in, huge PR push (billboards, ads, etc), show goes "all new" and tries to be refreshing, but it's largely boring, Chibnall is awful, Jodie is out of her depth, and audiences leave in their droves by the end again
>we know how the rest of this era goes

Beyond some aesthetic changes, the show is just so formulaic, and drowned out by better dramas now. The show has failed to keep trying to appeal to newcomers, instead largely just desperately going out of its way to retain the same audience it grabbed years ago (and who are probably now tired of the fact the show's getting fewer episodes every series, and gaps between series constantly get bigger - another huge problem for the show)

Getting rid of the Ponds didn't help the viewers really. Clara has no character.

Rumors were true Olly Alexander has just been unveiled as the new doctor in an exclusive for sfx

Attached: 0009.png (383x373, 283.21K)

In other words, Capal was a big mistake. I told you so.

Even in peak viewing figures, 99% of the audience don't care about continuity or consistency, just watch for entertainment banta.

I think they made a mistake not getting rid of the Ponds sooner. Amy's story was 'done' in Series 5, and their wedding felt like a nice wrap up of her and Rory. But then they stayed on - fair enough, but the show is just endless misery porn for them (deaths, kidnaps, losing a baby, separations, divorce, etc) and they get tangled in the bullshit River Song stuff as well. Then they sort of leave at the end of Series 6... but then they don't, and they're still here for Series 7, and they're just treading water at this point.

Their replacement was shit. People actually were invested in them, they developed as characters - Rory got braver slowly, they had a nice conflict with real life vs TARDIS life. Clara didn't ever change, she just looked nice.

Amy and Rory should've stuck around till the end of S7. Then Clara wouldn't have been around for so long (still could've been in Asylum of the Daleks). The whole plot of The Snowmen would change (for the better, no doubt).

I feel like Moffat didn't know how or when to end a character's story.

The Big Bang feels like a big finale to the Ponds' story. Amy and Rory get married. Amy gets her 'imaginary friend' back, and everyone gets introduced to the Doctor. She's validated. The cracks heal. Amy gets her parents back. The story's done.

But they were kept on. Okay, fine, but the problem is that it didn't feel like he knew what their story was beyond the Series 5 stuff. So now he just tangles them into his convoluted River stuff. Keeping them on feels more like "it was easier to renew their contract" rather than putting story integrity first and saying "nope, the Ponds story is done, time for new things and new cast."

It is nice to have a multi-series spanning companion tbf, so I can see why some people like that they stayed.

Similar with Clara. She's written very specifically to work in the Series 7B stuff as a mystery. Then she gets "solved" and fulfils her role in the finale. She could've been kicked out then, ready for a brand new Doctor and companion to roll in for 2014. But she stays, fair enough, she acts like a transition to the new Doctor, and she finally gets developed in Series 8. She gets a love interest, she has differences with the Doctor, she has some life experience. Then she gets written out at the end of the series, her lying to the Doctor and him lying to her, but they mutually part ways and it's bittersweet. End of the tale. The Danny stuff is wrapped up, Clara leaves of her own accord. Her and the Doctor have learned a lot from each other. But it's the end.

But then she comes back for Christmas. It kind of acts like an epilogue, with a bit more Danny stuff, and her getting one last trip with the Doctor. Then she gets beautifully written out, as an aged Clara, in a scene which mirrors her Christmas cracker scene in Time of the Doctor (old 11 and Clara / old Clara and 12), and the story wraps her era up in a heartwarming way.

But then Jenna asks to stay, and instead of saying "no, sorry, Clara's story is done, cast someone new and let's do new things", they just find it easier to renew her contract again and carry on doing 'the same old same old'. I know a lot of fans love the way they went with her in Series 9, so fair enough, but I think the show needed an injection of new blood. A new companion would've been a breath of fresh air. Clara had been around since Christmas 2012, and it was now Christmas 2014. A good run, but a long time in TV time and you need to keep giving audiences new things, especially on a show like this. But she sticks around effectively for a third series, and it's stale by now.

He had Series 5 fully planned out as this nice big story with a great conclusion. For the next series, he kept them because why wouldn't you? Popular characters, nice looking, you can flesh them out more (especially Amy). Clara only stayed for ages because Jenna didn't want to leave.

Sorry, slight correction, it seems that Moffat and Capaldi were the ones who wanted Jenna to stay on whilst she was initially happy to leave after Series 8.

>Steven Moffat, Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi later confirmed that Coleman was initially going to leave the series with this episode, but last-minute lobbying by Capaldi and Moffat convinced her to stay on for one more series. According to Moffat, the decision was made rather late in the process, perhaps as late as the readthrough, resulting in an eleventh-hour revision to the ending. Shona was originally intended to be the next companion.

But still, I think he should've introduced a new companion by then.

Yeah, I agree. No reason the Ponds can't stay on. Maybe it's just me, and the way I didn't like the direction they went (misery porn and a convoluted baby story that even Moffat somewhat regrets). It very much feels like S5 was planned, but S6 wasn't and he just threw loads of stuff at the wall with the Ponds, and S7 does the same (Amy's ever changing jobs, the divorce out of nowhere, etc)/

Clara was the best companion though

Donna

kiss BF shill

>I felt we weren't quite done with Clara yet
Shame cos the audience was

God I love those interviews. I watch them every so often to comfort, like the DW episodes themselves. God I love Moffuck.

They should've brought back the Myrka, it would've been a fun irony.

maybe if you stopped worshipping the RTD era so blindly and acknowledge it’s full of shit those wouldn’t get made.

YOUR AS YET UNBORN CHILD

Every single Silurian/Sea Devil story has someone blowing up their base at the end and the Doctor moaning about how they should work together. Every time they just redo Doctor Who and the Silurians but worse. How sad.

Pretty much, which is why they shouldn't have ever come back. One trick ponies.

Why are you so hostile to the fact that someone likes episodes you don't?

you mix up "liking" to "good based on facts"
comfy is not a valid criteria
any non nostalgic individual would look at those and see they are not that good
so be detached to your feelings

>inb4 I dont care about quality, I if liked when I was a fag toddler
so fuck off, this is a place to discuss measurable criteria, not to compare personal likings

Lol. Come back when you've got an argument. Just whining about how people like things that you don't reeks of your mental illness. Again: People like things for different reasons.

so describe them
if you only have feelings and cant put them into words, you are just a fag and should kys

Bin eating Micky is kino
because pppppizza

what a fag

Plonker.

People like things for different reasons. The writing is great, music, acting, directing. Why be such a party pooper? Lighten up man, it's just a fun show for kids.

but this is not a place for the likes of you
