The fact is, I don't particularly want to know that it took place in the twenty-third century. That's because I have no desire to sit down and read a series of novels that I've already read a hundred times over before even thinking of starting, and will definitely have read a hundred times more by the time I'm done, and maybe will reread over the course of my life.
I want to watch a movie and know that I'm seeing a movie, not reading a book. If I wanted to read a novel, I'd read a novel, not a serialized serial.
I'm not going to watch a TV show and spend my time trying to anticipate and remember who lives, who dies, and who does what. I'm not going to spend my time trying to remember who does what and who lives and who dies, because even when someone is killed, they still appear to live on in the minds of those who watched them live.

Trans woman Jazz Jennings joins the cast of Star Trek Prodigy, reality show star stated that she’s a Star Trek fan as a young child.
Jazz spoke at the CBS Kids’ panel for the recent Star Trek Beyond event at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Afterward, Star Trek Prodigy’s producer Jeri Lee stopped by her and posed the question of what made her want to join the new reality show.
“I like Star Trek,” she said in response, “and I liked the one with the captain who was black… and she was a woman.”
Jazz wasn’t sure if it would be safe for her to reveal that her favorite captain had been Uhura.
“She was the first one I remember watching on TV.”
Prodigy will be the first television reality show about trans people since Logo’s Emmy award-winning Transparent.
I always believed that he would do a rebooted series starring a transgender person. I really love all of his new shows. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the future! Good for you Jazz, I’m sure all of us will be proud to see a trans woman on one of our favorite television shows! :)

They are much less sexualized than anything that came after, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even today there are a lot of shows on TV that portray trans characters negatively. We’ve come a long way from those early days.

Vulcan is 16.5 light years away. A TNG era ship can cover a light year every 6 hours, so about 99 hours. I don't know if we know how TOS era warp calculations factor in, but we do know that 100 years earlier they had Warp 5 in ENT which is 16 hours per light year, or 264 hours travel time.

The 10 to 13 episode serial format for television format seemed like an approaching golden age when Breaking Bad was on the air. And yet it turned into cancer as well for the same reason, it just got really dumb.
The quality of writers is deteriorating, along with the quality of audiences.

Just rewatched DS9 “Body Parts.” I had forgotten how delightful it was. Brunt ghoulishly demanding Quark deliver on the contract, and just being creepy and really really weird. Garak’s testy mood vanishing and then immediately replaced with morbid glee at the prospect of fucking with Quark’s head. It was so good.
