Are the stories true? Was it really that kino?

It's all we had

Fridays were fucking awesome, I'd rent a game whilst my wife and kids were watching some shitty dvd.

You now remember the blockbuster carpet smell.

larping zoomers

I wish.

I remember renting games on the N64 and all the save slots were taken I'd delete the one with the most time out of spite

no. indie stores were always better
they had more titles and better staff
my local indie store had 100,000 unique titles

I remember it being a goldmine of 80's horror flicks if you're into that sort of thing. Mostly I was interested in the N64 games since my parents never let me rent movies that would have been too mature for me.

Gen Xer here, no they weren’t. They all sucked. Never had shit. New release? Forget about it unless you showed up the minute it opened. Asshole teenage employees working. Having drive the movie back to store. So many times I remember going, looking around and not finding shit, and leaving. Wasting a trip there. Or getting ruined VHS take or scratched DVD which they’d blame it on you. No, seriously. I’m glad their dead

>Go to Blockbuster anticipating grabbing the movie you wanted
>All copies rented out
>Get something not as good

Kino times

Kino of the Kino. Walk in. Smells like a shoe store. Nerd behind the counter picking his nose. Spend a hour looking at the game covers and selection. Finally get a game. Ninja over to the porn section. Checkout. Get a pizza. Lock myself in my room for the weekend playing Resident Evil 2 or God of War.

Blockbuster Video! Wow what a difference!

They were just another soulless corporate entity that abused their position to put forth a subpar product with lots of practices that had no benefit to their customer.

It was beautiful. Imagine for the first time having all movies made available to you. And you could physically touch and look at them.

Except they were never available when you wanted them

No they were the overpriced assholes that drove independent vid rental places out of the market.

I'm unironically turning 34 this year.

Thanks to blockbuster.
There were tons of other rental stores before Blockbuster bought them out and destroyed the competition.

When Pokemon Snap came out for N64 some Blockbusters had these kiosks set up. You bought a card thing from the front desk, then put your copy of Pokemon Snap from home into the machine and pick four of the photos you took in-game to print out as a 4x4 sticker set. I still have mine because I never wanted to stick the stickers on anything.

People that like or played pokemon are literal faggots.

No

>gaming instead of spending quality time with your kid
Why?

I know his wife and kid, they're not very interesting people.

>ywn walk down the horror section and be scared shitless by all the spooky covers
What a time

I was in my local kino rental indie store with my mate. He picked up a VHS of The Magdelene Sisters to look at and all I said was "Nah, they made us watch that in school, it's dead depressing"
The woman behind rhe counter came over and got all heated about how I was "dismissing and making light of factual important events".

For me they were. They had tons of copies of everything, and more in the back and underneath.

But surely, the snacks?

Not really, its just nostalgia.

You care about that shit? user, you're just frustrated that you are locked out of the power process. Touch grass and read Kaczynski

This is a shitty larp.

Nice larp

Cope

We had Hollywood Video
I still remember getting all kinds of TV episode collections in addition to movies, even as a young kid. Stuff like Rugrats on VHS, Dragon Tales, etc.
But yeah going with friends in middle school to get movies for a sleep over was fun too. I never thought much of it at the time. It was just a treat.

It's literally just a chain of stores that rent videos. 30 year old losers will idolize the most soulless corporate shit as long as it disappeared before they became losers.

City Blockbuster was soulless but rural Blockbuster was peak comfy. The one down the street from me had a mud pit where people could wrestle if they both wanted the last copy of a movie.
I watched a 400 pound man throw an old woman to the ground over a copy of Steel Magnolias. They gave him a free bag of jolly ranchers too

>before they became losers
>before
They were losers at the time.

>The one down the street from me had a mud pit where people could wrestle if they both wanted the last copy of a movie.

>34 year old using the word "unironically"
Embarrassing.

They were children who were too busy having fun to care about being losers.

Don't reply to obvious joke larps.

If they were excited about going to blockbuster, they were losers.
I actually lived during the time. Only loser kids ever went to blockbuster.
I'm 42. Feels bad man

>grew up in the city
>"whaaat, there are places that are cool and don't suck?!"

no.
you know what was kino?
getting ADSL for the first time in my life
suddenly, i was able to download 4gb dvd images whereas before, on 64kbit ISDN, a 3mb song took an hour to download
so then i immediatelly downloaded and watched *fucking everything i ever wanted*, *for free*
oh, games and porn, too

now *that* was *fucking kino*, of the highest fucking order.

Video stores where great cause you'd go to a gerne and start going through the movies and like that i found La Blue Girl in the anime section because i was 10 and alone and there were a shitload of movies

The day you finally learn how to be a pirate feels great.

You knew it was going to be a good weekend when you go to blockbuster on a Friday night.

This

>Unironically caring about people saying unironically
Oh dear

Not as great as the day you get a job and live the clean life buying the things you love

>ADSL
Surely you mean ABDL?

Sorry to point out that you sound like a retarded zoomer.

it was nice to rent games for a week
check out to see how they are
if good buy them
or just burn through em cause they have 6-8 hours of gameplay

Attached: pip.gif (500x282, 213.94K)

I'm not him tho

I've had a job for 20 years.
I still pirate because those video game designers and movie makers don't deserve my money.

no, i mean asymmetric DSL
im greek, we never had cable, so we never had cable internet (i assume thats what you meant?)

No. Now fuck off with this same tired thread.

yeah blockbuster was kino but you had a lot of local or regional stores that we're great too.

t, seething zoomie

Not if you had a blockbuster in the area.
They are like weeds. One pops up and they slowly kill the nearby flora.

You can buy Snowcaps at any grocery store you fat fucking retard

larp, when blockbuster was around dads werent gamers if anything just casuals
