Most "slice of life" movies are now set in the 80s-early 00s because everyone having an iPhone is very inconvenient for plot. Things that were major situations can now be solved with a phone call, text, quick google, checking someone's social media, etc.
They tried to get around it with the "oh nooo I have no service! that sucksss" but that became too common and audiences made fun of it. So they just reverted the movie settings.
